I'd rather have the Zelda like gameplay from the gamecube starfox than the space ship gameplay from the N64 one if I could only choose one. But I'm hoping for an good mix of the two.

I think the first option, with pointer controls would definately be best. You might not even need the nunchuck, and just have the ship go where the pointer is. I think there should be options for wiimote sideways or wiimote as a joystick though, because those sound fun.

The second. I loved that Wario Ware mini-game where you used the Wiimote to steer control the Airwing on the SNES Star Fox.

RIGHT YOU GOT ME STARTED NOW! The next starfox should be just like Lylat wars setup...when you start the game you should get a reading saying "Coneria 404th planet of the NEW Lylat system!" or better yet 4th planet of the Lylat Galaxy...that would rule. Then we go straight into first level which starts off a lot like the Coneria on Lylat wars, your flying over water and your getting shot at from a giant laser cannon who is the boss at the end of the level...(bit like the cutscene from brawl)...imagine the physics of the water improved. Then once you complete the first level, the map zooms out to about 30 planets at least and basically it has the same level system as Lylat wars except there is more then one mission on each planet (around 3 would do) and some the of the levels will require walking or Land master or Blue marine (the submarine) or some may require more then one. You should also be able to pick between using the Star Fox team or the Star Wolf team and you start off at a different point depending on which team you choose. The story is simple Andross comes back with the power of rogue aparoids (Aparoids from Starfox assault)...and well basically you fight both Andross's new army and Aparoids...plus maybe a new enemy. Customisable ships would be very nice, but not crucial. If Nintendo made the new Starfox like that...might even be better then Lylat Wars....NEED A NEW STARFOX!

Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

They could also get some ideas for direction from Shadows Of Lylat, if they know what's good for it.

Actually, it makes the most sense to use the Wiimote and Nunchuck and steer by using the Wiimote as a flight stick. It would be just like Ninendo to come out with a little pedestal that you put the wiimote in strait up and then it gives you force feedback when you steer with it. Oh, and another thing, I think that the entire game shouldn't be on-rails. Of course i'm not suggesting that you leave your Arwing, but that there are dogfight sections where you are free to maneuver around an area of space or a planet. Oh, and there could be a multiplayer mode where you battle each other in this dogfight manner.

what about using nunchuk's analog stick?darth-pyschosis
I think you missed what I was saying. If the Arwing shoots straight ahead, how can it fly downward and shoot upward at the same time? Answer: It can't.

it could but to a limit. its same as a FPS can u shoot higher than straight ahead while looking down? yes

You can shoot higher than your head when looking down because you can hold the gun above your head. In this case, we are talking about a weapon of destruction being mounted on the front of the ship which can only shoot in the direction the vehicle is pointing.

Hmm...Wii remote move the plane, tilting nunchuck for barrel roll, A Button shoot, B trigger bomb....I would have to say thats the most realistic option...but they will probably add control options so you can change it to whatever you want.

I think I's go for the nunchuck to steer, so we can use the wiimote to aim and do stuf like the barrel roll.

thats the thing, Lylats can only shoot straight so the aiming and the steering will be the same which is why I would say remote and nunchuck to pull of tricks...but well anyway is possible because they will probably have options.

Using the Nunchuck to move and the remote shoot sounds like a pretty fun control scheme.

Yep, I would choose that as the best,

[QUOTE="Razmitaz"]Lol, good point. Wonder how that would work.nintendofreak_2
The only idea I have is that the lasers can rotate around, but that's not really an Arwing . :P

Ah, but the charge shot homes in. The chuck could be for movement, and the motion sensing could be for aiming the auto target.

Nunchuk
Control Stick-Boost(up), Barrel Roll(left or right), Brake(down)
C Button- Used for "advanced manuevers" in conjunction with the Control Stick: Somersault(Up on Control Stick while holding C), U-Turn (Down while holding C)
Z Button- Target Object (to break lock-on, press Z on a non-designated region of space)

Wii Remote
IR Pointer - Manuever Arwing; the Arwing will follow the position of the pointer reticule*
Tilt - Rotates Arwing in respective position (ie, tilting Remote left = Arwing tilting left)
Control Pad- same as Control Stick (but optional)
A Button - Fire laser(s), Hold to charge shot
B Button - Fire bomb
-/+ Button - Pause
1 Button - Decrease Pointer Box (ie, increases sensitivity of box surrounding reticule; that means handling the Arwing is possible with fewer movements)
2 Button - Increase Pointer Box (ie, decreases pointer sensitivty)

*Flight experience can be enhanced with Wii's MotionPlus accessory, forgoing the pointer

How are my thoughts? I would love to hear any suggestions or improvements to my control scheme.

SuperMarioNerd

A good control scheme. A couple points though. A z-lock on isn't needed. 1 and 2 used for pointer box isn't needed, that can be in an option menu. Reverse A and B. Make Z the manuver button since it's bigger and important.

Other than that, perfect.

A more casual friendly way would be wiimote only where the d-pad is used for boost, break, and "Do a barrel roll!". Flick up to loppdy-loop, and flick down to u-turn. Though, this would be optional so vets could use the nunchuck.

The reason I think the lock-on button should be Z because there were times in StarFox 64 when I targeted an unintended enemy. Also, the Z Button is the typical targeting button in several games, including Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and BWii.
As for A and B Button functionality, if there's one button I would use for rapid pressing, it would be A. Not sure if it's me or anything, but pressing B in quick succession feels uncomfortable. However, I would allow switching button functions in the options/pause menu. Now that you think of it, I feel the 1 and 2 Buttons have little to no necessary use; the remote sensitivity options should be included in the options/pause menus.

About the "casual" control setting, couldn't there be issues with tilting (controlling Arwing) and shaking (advanced manuevers)?

First of all, best control scheme for StarFox that I've come across (including my own). This would be awesome.

For anyone who played the old StarFox games, moving with the Nunchuk AND pointing with the Wiimote wouldn't make sense, since your ship moves wherever you aim (as others have said).

I like the "locking on with Z" function, since it allows you to aim an lock on independently. I don't really know what 1 and 2 should be used for...something new would be nice. The basic gameplay of the StarFox franchise hasn't really changed since the SNES (minus StarFox Adventures...but that's a completely different beast entirely).

I think it would be nice to be able to use the Wiimote without the Nunchuk (I'm thinking particularly for multiplayer - I certainly don't have 4 Nunchuks lying around). I like the idea of using the D-Pad to replace boost/brake/barrel roll, and flicking up and down for Somersault/U-turn. Perhaps 1 and 2 could be used to Somersault/U-turn if they're not going to be used for anything else...though, they are a bit far away for people with smaller hands.

And whoever said moving with the Nunchuk while aiming from a Landmaster - YES. Would be awesome.

I suppose Nintendo *could* do first-person shooter-like controls pretty easily, too...though like any true StarFox fan, I want to stay in my Arwing as much as possible.

I think moving/aiming with the nunchuk analog is the way to go, and the wiimote can be use for aerial maneuvers to escape opponents. Like say your getting tailed by an aggressive opponent, you flick the remote up and the arwing would go up and back to dodge your opponent. While pulling it all the way back would cause a complete loop to get behind your opponent, a flick down would cause a dive, and twisting would cause a loop-de-loop(right causes right and vice versa).
