I dont even know what Disc format the Wii uses, besides everyone already has a DVD palyer!Red_Trigger
It uses Dual Layer DVD just like DVDs and the 360 except that the Wiis laser can't read DVD coding and not to mention that the drive isn't meant to spin constantly for hours. (Games only spin fastin intervals)

It's not the laser. The Wiicould play DVDs with just a firmware upgrade, but Nintendo would haveto pay a licensing fee to include DVD playback, and the fee would be passed onto us consumers.It would be nice, seeing how it would save an AV port in the back of the tv and all.
It is very possible for it to be done via a firmware update, I don't know why people say otherwise because you can already play dvd's via the gamecube mode homebrew.
