The only online I ever played was on DS with Mario Kart, Star Fox and Metroid. How was it ruined on the other systems? Were there a lot of hacks or are we talking about people who talk a lot of trash and get really annoying??
The great thing about friend codes is that for the most part you don't have to deal with the nonsense of 12 year olds swearing up and down just because they can in games.
Whenever I play online its always american kids that ruin it for some reason, everyone else is so more chilled out I've even been kicked from some servers simply for being british. Maybe european players get on better because its harder to understand each other :P. Avoiding the use of voice communication could solve the problem but the likes of Battalion Wars 2 would thrive on it (a bundle would sell well). Talking is only really necessary for games involving teamwork anyway.
Snaking in Mario Kart DS did kind of ruin it for me...there were hackers in Metroid, but not many. If worse comes to worse, I'll get a bunch of people's friend codes, and delete any annoying people or hackers.

Yeah it takes away some of the fun, but there are still a lot of decent people playing.

True, but if nintendo allows us to play with random people too there will still be the annoying people.
Oh man, I hope not, because when I played my friends Xbox 360 playing Halo 2, there always some annoying 8 year old kids cursing off everyone. I wonder where they pick up on the language these days, because I don't remember knowing those words until I was about 12.
well this is a conundrum. Big N better allow us to play thru a lobby of sorts but that is how we find the snots that cuss just because they can. and nintendo better have voice or i will never buy an online game. the ds with no voice was ok but wii dont think so! but if we are restrictred to only playing with friends that completly kills multi and makes it usless. yep this could be a problem...
The worst thing that can happen with online games is having another company make another Action Replay thing for the Wii. I'm looking forward to Smash Bros, but it's gonna be disappointing to find people on there that won't stop cheating.
Yea while that friend code seems like a good idea it would be nice to have a lobby because i dont wanna go spend my time looking for codes, and the ability to block people. I heard there was a website/forum where people post there wii codes and such. What they should also add is an ability to rate differnt people so if someone has like a -123123 rating people know to steer clear from him or her. Also I am really looking foward to Super Smash Bros. I rember the one for n64 that was awesome.
Lol now im liking the idea of FC, i forgot what age the Wii was targeted at....also yes i know the Wii is targeted at all ages, but i bet you more ten year olds own a Wii compared to a middle aged person...

I'm thinking about getting a 360 (I've found a great deal), but I know what you mean. I'm not going to get Live. What? Xbox 360 is ONLY good with Live. Who cares about the kids, theres a mute you know and private chat. Also you get downloadable content, demos, movies, TV show, and trailers. And replay value. I wouldnt buy a 360 for 100 dollars if i couldnt get Live.

people on DS online are immature because handhelds are sort of kiddy systems but i know lots of adults that play the Wii random fact: "did you know that the actor that plays napoleon dynamite prefers the wii over other systems" read more about it on wiicast.com
There's always going to be some problems online with systems, but let's face it - there's ways around everything, and Nintendo won't not do anything to prevent hacking, etc. It's Nintendo we're talking about, and they haven't been waiting to go online this long without having some sort of gameplan.
Nintendo fans seems to be a lot more mature than Xbox and Sony fans, so.. I don't know. Wii online will definitely not be the same as 360 online.Litchie
Yeah, even though the Gamecube (the kiddy console) was made for kids under about 14, it was still a good console. Nintendo's old school fans are still with them today playing the Wii and more adults probably have it because they wanted to get into gaming. But most Xbox owners I know are usually jerks. (no offense to xbox people, there are nice ones out there I know.)

I never had any trouble that I can recall playing a game with an Australian or European. Although I ran into some French guys who, I'm pretty sure, were picking on me... can't be certain:)
