Honestly, show anyone a picture of Pikachu. Anyone. They will at least know it's a Pokemon, may not even know Pokemon was by Nintendo, but people KNOW who Pikachu is, possibly even moreso than Mario. I wish I could say Link, but there are still quite a few who never played a Zelda. I really wish I could say Samus, but even less people know her.

Also people will make fun of you if you like Zelda. I used to get made fun of just because those people loved 50 Cent: Bulletproof and made fun of me because Zelda was made by Nintendo.

Zelda is the no brainer been out since 1986 and is still kicking. Pokemon doesnt have a face there are like 500 of the things and ash hasn't been a main character in the game like ever... Zelda > ash

Pikachu is popular because of the T.V. show not because of nintendo my friend and thus that totally screws your whole arguement. Zelda and mario made nintendo.

I can't believe I'm saying this again (actually, I can), but take a look at what Pokemon originated from. The anime and all of the Pokemon-related products were spawned from the GAME. Without the success of the GameBoy games, none of the other stuff would have come to fruition the way that they did.

Just take a look at this old KFC commercial, and the point becomes very clear.

"These days, everyone's trying to catch Nintendo's Pokemon!" Regardless of what is made, the Pokemon series represents Nintendo first and foremost, since it was born as a Nintendo game. And since Pokemon has become more successful than any other gaming franchise not named Mario, then yes, it DOES represent Nintendo better than the likes of Zelda, Metroid, and even Donkey Kong.

Pit?! Hardly anybody's heard of Pit. I didn't know him until I played SSBB.

My opinions on the following characters:

Samus: not family-friendly which is part of Nintendo's image because her games are associated with shooting enemies. Also, people could not relate to a bounty hunter and seems impersonal.

Link: not family-friendly like Samus and his popularity is mostly centered among "core" gamers who represent a minority of the gaming market.

Pikachu: a more suitable replacement for Mario because of its "cute" personality. However, most people would associate Pikachu with the Pokemon franchise and not Nintendo.

Miis: Lake personality and serve as avatars for players.

Without Mario, he could not do this:

Link. If you think about it, Mario and Zelda games are similar in many ways.

I believe that would be Pikachu. Or possibly Donkey Kong. Both are well known to the general population.

Pikachu because non-gamers probably dont know about samus and link.

I will go from a non mario ranchise and say pokemon.
