i bought a black one, but it has a dead pixel in it that's really gettin me mad, so I'm going to replace it. I've been watching the White DS lite and I find it very attractive, but Im just wondering if I get a cracked hinge, what do I do? So tell me, replace with black again, or go for the classy white? thx:)
I'm pretty sure the hinge problem has been fixed on newly produced units. If for some reason you did get it though, Nintendo would replace it for free under the one year warranty. Also, I personally like black better. It brings out the colors on the screens more and doesn't show wear and tear as easily (although the outside does show scratches and fingerprints more than the white).

I sent in one of my DS's a while back, and upon asking about the hinge crack I was told it IS NOT covered under warranty, but they will fix it for 50 bucks.
Also, I have a black DS lite and the hinge is cracked. As far as I know, this has not yet been fixed in newer units.
It was the black one that was getting the stick for this a few months ago, you aren't going to avoid it by colour, they all come off the same line. The time it was made at is more likely to help you.

I like the black DS lite its the one i have and you can have 4 different settings for how bright it will bebumblebee1493
the white one has 4 settings too......... Ya i like the white one alot better i got mine 8 months ago or so and i got white over black , since the store didn't have blue
I don't know if they fixed the problem or what, but i've had the black DS since november and the only problem i've had is that it shows fingerprints on the outside.
The hinge crack thing was only a problem with early WHITE ds-lite units. Nintendo of Europe will definately replace a defective unit if it's within warranty period.
It was caused by an over-tightened component inside the hinge and was rectified early. All the early white DS units i've seen exhibit the problem, but never black ones or recently-made models.
I just read this thread last night and sure enough I checked my DS today and noticed the crack! I wonder if it was just something I never noticed or if it is a coincidence. I did some research online and did not realize just how big of a problem this was. This figures since I bought my DS on the first day it came out on launch. I called the number on the back of the DS and got a message saying that representatives were unavailable. Do you think they will fix the problem for free (under warrranty) or would I have to play. I they are going to charge me, I think I will just live with it:? It seems to be more cosmetic if nothing else
