errm snaking is very very easy to learn, takes some practice to get good at. I mean I snake whenever I play, well last time i played must have been something like 6 months ago but im sure i could still outsnake the majority of people. Its part of the game, anyone whos anyone and owns the game does it. I learnt it overnight before the national championships in my region and won. so cant be that hard to learn.
If my opponents doesn't snake, I don't either, since I'm lazy and don't find it that fun. If my opponents does snake, though, I counter-snake. :P I don't really like to loose..

well snaking is more or less snaking constantly, giving you an incredible advantage in terms of speed. You more or less powerslide on a straight, and then repeat in the opposite direction, meaning if you powerslided towards the left you follow it up with one towards the right to go straight more or less. this can be done real quickly and all around the track saving you heaps of time. as you do it left,right,left it looks like youre moving along the track like a snake. but yeah good snakers snake so quickly that you can hardly tell just by looking at the track. youll just know because they are so far ahead of you

The point of the game is to use a cart that matches your racing preferences (handling vs. speed), have fun using the power-ups, and use your knowledge of the courses to outfox your opponents. I've been playing videogames for over a quarter-century and could easily learn to snake if I wanted to, but I have no desire to do so. I see how it ruins the game for me and don't care to do it to others. Snaking is exactly why MKDS has simply sat unplayed for months in my game pile.

I've only been playing for about 14 years or so, but I agree with you completely. Its clearly not they way the game was meant to be played, and it destroys the consept of the game.

i don't like snaking, but you're right yahooy boy. i mean, if you say "no snaking" at what point is power sliding not snaking? if everyone knew how to snake it wouldn't be as bad, but it's not really fun if there's one snaker and it's not really a race. is that fun for the snakers? i do a lot of power sliding, but i wouldn't call it snaking cuz i'm not fast enough and i don't know that i could be. it hurts your thumbs. enjoy carpal tunnel! lol j/k
snaking = teh gay. yes, i've snaked and i am ok snaker...but i have less fun when i'm cheating which is snaking. ruins the game, the point of mario karts were to level the playing field so that EVERYONE enjoyed the game....you can't have that when first place is leading by a lap and a half.
Well, when there are more than 2 players on the course, I snake. If there is just me and someone else, and I snake, he doesn't, I usually turn around and go backwards to the other player. I don't snake afterwards. =). That's how I got my 50 losses.
I don't think snaking is cheating, it's just unfair to not-so skilled players. But that's why I learnt to snake. If no one's snaking, I won't. If people are snaking, I will. I personally find snaking makes the game more fun and exciting. It's much faster and requires a lot more skill. If there's no snaking then it's all about luck in what items you get, which is boring.
Don't confuse the meanings guys! There is difference between snaking and powersliding boost. Powersliding boost is used when you are taking turns. Snaking is a devious, evil and insidious technique that is essentialy constant powersliding boost in straights! Just seeing it in action is ridiculous. Is this racing or actually slipping? I have no desire to snake. It's pointless and on a more important (if you lack morality) note is that snaking contributes in nothing more than ruining your d-pad in zero time. So much for a victory. Sigh...

You are right about everything except it being unfair. Don't go soft! It's not unfair when someone is better than you at something, it just means you either need more practice, or find someone else to play with. Pulling flags thru walls in Halo, entering codes for unlimited ammo in GTA, hiding in deadspots in shooters....that's cheating. Why? Because it's not readily apparent to everyone. Snaking is not cheating, because its in the darned controls people. If you continue to powerslide after your turn, oh well. Anyone can continue doing that....I thought it's pretty obvious. You don't even have to go to any forums to figure out that you can snake. There isn't a cheat for it, no special spots to do it, just do it if you are good enough. Hey, don't play Warioware so well! You press the buttons faster than me! Hey you, quit drawing such straight lines when you are using your scalpel in Trauma Center, it's not fair for you to get an S rating, and I can only get a C. Don't morph into a ball and run away from me on Hunters, let me shoot you a couple of times so I can feel better about myself. Ugh.....there truly has been a serious decline in gaming challenges because of this kind of whiny drivel.
