I definately disagree with comforming to what people think about me, but I still find myself somewhat embarassed to by "childesh" games. I need to get over definately! It's so much fun arguing with the a-holes that are the offenders though like in gamestop and stuff. I usually resort to scores from websites and magazines, which is a dumb idea. Giving intelligent insults is a lot better :)

I feel embarrased looking in the Manga section in book stores a lot too:(

I'm a DS owner, and i love the games and the system itself. One of the best RPG's however is POKEMON... but being a teenager, i feel pretty embarassed to buy it at a local game shop. Gahh, I know i'm missing out, but there's no way you can get me to pick up a game of pokemon with everyone else there staring at me...

Does anybody else have a problem when it comes to buying childish games? Are you embarassed to buy certain titles from your game shop?

lauder_now

Nope, I don't, And there is this cute girl thats always at my gamestop too, its like she is always working there. Anyways, she sees all the games I buy and I have now shame, its actually cool because she likes to talk about them, whereas when I picked up GTA4, she pretty much did not care about it because its so violent.

But who cares, I mean, they dont even know who its for, just make up a story that its for your little brother/cousin or something, and if you are afraid to do that then you must be somewhat un social, so who cares about what they think then?

Yes, considering that I buy Harvest Moon games, and the next one will be called "Island of Happiness".

I'm still getting it, but in all seriousness, I look nothing like the kind of person who would buy a game called "Island of Happiness".

Personally I find games like GTA to be way more childish and immature then pokemon. Its not childish just because it has a whimsical look. Someone could say the movies Tim Burton makes are childish because they are whimsical. Get over it. Don't care what people think. Once I stopped caring what people thought of me I became a VERY happy person.

I found it kind of hard to find movies like Edward Scissorhands, where there's a guy with big scissors for hands whimsical.

No, because my social status is so low, it really doesn't matter what the heck I'm buying to people I know.

I remember when I bought pokemon diamond. I was kinda apprehensive at first just for the reason you said, but then I thought, is it really worth it to lose out on such a good game to try to look a little more mature to someone you've never met before and will never meet again? So I just went up to the clerk with a "fk you" kind of attitude and bought it. mad fun game.

If you feel embarassed, ask for a gift receipt to go with the game, as it may give the idea to the cashier that it's for a gift.

I wasn't really embarrassed when I bought Pokemon diamond since its a decent game. I was however embarrassed when I got my friend DOAX2 for his 17 birthday (as a joke). there were little kids at the store with their moms waiting behind me when I asked for it. I felt like a perv. for buying the game. I still feel bad about how the moms stared at me. Its kind of funny. I won't try to play a prank like that again.

I bought a used copy of Golden Sun:tla at GS and the employee was all like "um ok, so does this game have like the name zelda or anything"...
Eh... well not complicated, i actually think the employee is kinda...yeah....

I'm 22 and I had no problems announcing to the guy at the store that I wanted to buy Pokemon Diamond. Trust me, nobody's going to be staring at you if you buy the game. Nothing childish about enjoying a great game.GabuEx
Exactly, if anyone does laugh at you for buying a certain game. Ignore them. If you still feel down about it, read GabuEx's soapbox on "Playing video games does not make you cool." It cheered me up. :)

I can't believe this is up for debate. If you are that embarrassed to buy a game, you need to stop and ask yourself why you care so much what other people think. Who cares? If they're going to judge you for what game you're playing, then it's their problem, not yours. Screw 'em. I would have thought that gaming in general carries enough stigma in the eyes of the public that you'd be used to people thumbing their noses at you. So go buy what you want, and if they make faces at you or judge you, then take your money elsewhere. No reason to buy from a bunch of pretentious jerks.

I see where you're coming from, cause I'd be sooo embarrassed to go buy Pokemon Mystery Dungeon at my local Wal-Mart and a really hot girl from my school be standing at the register buying an Ipod or something. I don't think the game is childish by any means, but it would still be very awkward. What I do if I want to buy a game that might be a little embarrasing, is buy it at a store not in you're town. I go to cities about an hour and a half from where I live often, so I pick it up while I'm there, because nobody there would know me or even think about me the next day.

It depends who the worker is. If it's an older person i don't care but if it's someone around my age (16) then I get sort of embarassed.
