As much as I loved Twilight Princess, I feel it lacked the charm of Wind Waker, or even Ocarina of Time. Now, I'm all for a dark and realistic Zelda, but I'd rather see it on a system that can produce a convincingly realistic world. The Wii is best at more stylized graphics, like Mario Galaxy or de Blob. I think that Nintendo should play to their strengths and make a game that will really stand out.

For the most part, people hated Wind Waker for two reasons- it wasn't dark enough, or the sailing was too boring. As far as I'm concerned, The Wind Waker is the greatest Zelda game ever made, but many don't agree. However, both these complaints can be addresed. Just because the game has a cartoony presentation doesn't mean it can't have a deep and dark plot. Just look at Link to the Past. Also, the sailing complaint can easily be fixed. Put more enemies in the water, and make it so you don't have to stop your boat to fire your cannon and the problem's fixed. Granted, sailing a boat will never be quite as fun as riding a horse, but in my opinion, sailing gives the player a greater sense of discovery. The joy of discovering a new uncharted island is something that can't quite be replicated on horseback. And of course there's the obvious- conducting the wind waker with the wii-remote would be totally sweet.

I'm not sure if it will happen- in fact the whole reason that they made Twilight Princess more realistic is because of the negative north american response to Wind Waker. Not only that, but Phantom Hourglass seemed like a perfect fit on the ds. But I'm not sure if I want the cell-shaded zelda adventures to be forever banished to handhelds. I think that it deserves another chance on a major console. Anyone else agree?

Any particular reason? I'm genuinly curious. I've never understood why people didn't like the cell shaded look. Did you actually play through Wind Waker, or did the whole idea just turn you off to it?

Super duper but as Phantom Hourglass on the DS showed us it's that Zelda is awesome.

So I would like Zelda to follow that line of awesomeness

It would be nice to see Nintendo take that route once again with a cel-shaded Zelda adventure. Heck, prior to Super Mario Galaxy, I wanted Nintendo to experiment with the idea of making a cel-shaded installment in the Super Mario games, as well. Still, it's not so much that a Zelda game needs to have cel-shading in order for it to regain its Wind Waker-like charm again, though. What needs to happen is for Nintendo to care less about what fans may think of the series and take an approach it thinks the series needs to go in. That's what Wind Waker was, and despite the backlash from a lot of photorealistic-graphic nuts out there, it was successful. TP did more to appease the OoT faithful, and while it had its moments, there have also been a lot of people that didn't care as much for it, like you or I. The potential for another amazing Zelda game is still very much existant, but Nintendo simply can't listen to its fans and expect that to be the answer.

I personally could care less what it looks like as long as its another great Zelda but if your asking what my preference is what your asking i would prefer a look akin to Twilight Princess.

Amen. What I really really want to see is something different. And if history has told us anything it's that nintendo knows best and almost never does what the fans want. I think the reason I want to see another cell-shaded adventure is I just really love the art style. I'm a bit of an artist myself and I found it very inspiring. I think what might be even better than cell-shading is just a new style all together. Sort of a balance between realism and fantasy.

as much as i love WW (my favorite zelda game) and liked PH (interesting, but too short), i'd like the new zelda to be not realistic (who the hell wants to see an ultra-realistic-crysis zelda anyways), but a TP-styIe zelda is what i want now. i just feel zelda needs another attempt in the not-cel-shaded world. maybe its because i cant associate cel-shaded zelda with the skill learning and fluid movements (from the secret scrolls) that made some battles in TP epic. not saying that wind waker wasnt fluid, just didnt feel natural, specially the jump attack.

You know if Nintendo makes another Cel shaded Zelda its not going to have the same appeal that the Wind Waker did, so for those who expect that, your going to be disappointed.

That's where you and I have our respectful disagreements, I believe. I actually found Wind Waker to be the more fluid of the two games and by a wide margin. (That said, the game's jump attack was odd, to say the least.) Within the first few hours of TP, I couldn't hit a thing, which was very unusual. I was even disappointed by the fact that enemies were unable to hit each other in TP, unlike WW. Also, it's not like most of those skill techniques weren't used in Wind Waker anyway; they were just parry animations that were automatically done. Since Nintendo seems to be in the mood to remake GCN games, I'd love to see Wind Waker remade with the parry move replaced by the manual actions from TP. I still think that Nintendo shouldn't be so afraid of what fans may think of another cel-shaded Zelda adventure and go ahead with it if that's its wish. Regardless of what style it is, it has to be with the intent that it works for the game being developed.

I loved Wind Waker. It stands shoulder to shoulder with Majora's Mask in my book.

Then I hated Phantom Hourglass. I think it could have been excellent had it been on the wii instead of DS but alas. So I would say that PH should have been a console game rather than I handheld, and therefore am not ready for another cell shaded zelda because I kind of felt like we just had one.....? lol?

Yes, please give me another cel-shaded Zelda. Wind Waker was an incredibly charming game because of it's visuals and I'd like to experience something similar again.

nah id rather have it look like ocarina of time and TP personally, dont get me wrong ww was good but i just didn't like the kind of atmosphere WW had. And i dont think going back to that cel shaded style will really give zelda the boost it needs, something gameplay wise must be completely different than anything we have seen before. But as long as it still feels like zelda ill be fine with whatever they do and i hope they make some devious puzzles to bring back the games challenge.

I wouldn't mind a cell shaded zelda, I loved WW. However, no matter what the next game looks like, could they please make it challenging?? i mean I love zelda games, but the more recent ones if just found to be....too easy. Boss battles would be so much more epic if they were more difficult.

you can have mature, cell-shaded graphics. and i think if they did that, the game would be jaw-dropping

I would love to be able to bring this thread back in time to right after they showed the first WW trailer. Oh man, wouldn't that be great. :) And to answer the question: No. WW is a thousand times better than TP but it isn't just because of the graphics. Let's not look at the most blatantly obvious difference and say "that's it, that's the thing that made it so great." That won't get us anywhere.

I enjoyed everything in Wind Waker, but Phantom Hourglass had some issues. The sailing was butchered in this game. Drawing a path and watching your ship sail while defending it was far more boring than the sailing in Wind Waker. The second mistake is the Temple of the Ocean King. Redoing everything you've done before just to get somewhere new was stupid. Having a timer and having to sneak around didn't help either. the map drawing stuff was pure genius though.

I see, I was just wondering the flaws in WW cuz other than the somewhat repetitive sailing after a while, I had nothing. And I never played PH so I wouldn't know :P

For me, the cel-shaded look makes things look...less cool and astounding. I'm not sure why, but all of the bright, cartoon-like colors seem to make towns and dungeons look boring. I never got that "woah--din's fire is awesome!" or "Oh snap--that moon is going to hit the city!" feeling. They seemed to give the game a more shallow feeling.
