Anything that moves developer attention away from a single-player Metroid game is a bad thing. Metroid has always been about the single-player and I think Hunters proved that.

Metroid is a single-player franchise.

I KNOW! its like they're online haters or metroid singleplayer hardcore fans. once again, yes, my picture is a halo helmet. don't judge me! i happen to like halo, big deal. i have no favoritism at all and the last thing i want is to compare halo and metroid.

anyways..who said it would put attention away from the single player? they just have to work harder or spend more time on the game. i mean it is possible to have a game with both good online and single player.

Metroid Prime is a single player experience. Its not like say a Halo where it shines in the multiplayer the most, Metroid Prime shines in its stellar single player experience. This way, the developer is focused on delivering a stellar single player experience.

it could of have replay value if they had online because mine is collecting dust right now. oh wait it isn't collecting dust because i have 3 other online games on top of it; Mario Strikers Charged, Battallion Wars 2, andMedal of Honor Heroes 2. why can't retro studios be the first make a great online single player game? why does it have to be a single player experience? don't you like playing games with other people or just yourself?

it doesnt make sense to me either, metriod offers great single player but why not multiplayer too, everyone says that its because they have to focus on singleplayer because its always been a single player game which is bull. why not focus on both and maybe take a little more time to give great experiences on both single and multiplayer. look at COD4, its getting all these GOTY votes on all these websites because it offers great experiences on both fronts. im sure as hell that retro is able to do that if not more so why not?

It would just break awaythe allusion of that isolated feeling, whichi admitedly MP3 didn't really have, but still. In fact when you think about multiplayer is really all the same when it comes to first person shooters, you shoot other people, most games these days all have the same modes (albeit with diffrent names) and some do have their little gimmicks (Perks in COD 4) but at the end of the day your basically playing the same multiplayer component only with a diffrent theme (Halo+scifi, aliens COD4=modern war, humans).why do they have diffrent themes? from the single player component, back in the days it used to be that the Multiplayer was a bonus, or a compliment, to the single player, but these days its the other way around (which explains short campaigns). In short get another game for the multiplayer experience, yeah you have to spend more money but that's economics for you, now the wii has MOHH2 so there is a decent multi component for the wii.

Retro Studios is a small company. They decided that if they split their resources between online and single player both would be underdeveloped, so they decided to go with what they are good at.

Also, unlike traditional FPS games, Metroid isn't focused on combat so much as exploration and puzzle solving. Online multiplayer games focus on combat, which a lot of people consider to be Metroids weakest element. Additionally, it would be difficult to balance a proper multiplayer Metroid game, because of the nature, and variety of powerups availble in the game.

basically the way MP games work just wouldnt suit a multiplayer enviroenment. the different power ups and weapons make for a very very unbalanced multiplayer game. MP2 showed this....the multiplayer was crap. hoving stupidly powerful weapons in SP is fine since the devs can also make enemies to suit these weapons and still make the game a challenge.

so why not adjust the gameplay mechanics? because by doing so, ull dilute the single player experience...ala MPH. for a metroid game, thats completly unacceptable.

the only way to get a good multiplayer MP game going would be to build two seperate games and plonk them on the same disc.....like what ubisoft did with splinter cell MP.

its not that ppl dont want multiplayer MP....its that if the single player suffers from it then single player should take priority.

Well, we saw how it turned out in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime Hunters. Metroid Prime 2 didn't have a great single player or multiplayer experience, and Hunters had a pretty bad single player half and good multiplayer half on the other side. Metroid Prime 3 focused on the single player which is what matters, but I'll leave multiplayer for another game, not at the cost of the single player campaign.

By plonk them on the same disc you mean have to diffrent gameplay mechanics right? (even if you were a spy, they would control diffrently than sam which took time getting used to).

Even though Metriod would make an awesome online multiplayer with all the hunters and stuff, its more of a single player game but I would prefer if it had online missions or something multiplayer like Halo and Call of Duty

I'll tell you what I think cos I kinda agree with both sides of the argument.

On the one hand Metroid games are at their best when its just Samus, alone, exploring, fighting massive bosses and getting cool items. And I think for hardcore Metroid fans, who have beaten every game in the series (like me), they know exactly what they want from Metroid- a fantastic single player experience.

BUT, newcomers, who are used to other FPS games, which, more often than not feature multiplayer, would feel disappointed that Prime 3 doesn't include a multiplayer. As Nintendo is appealing more to new, casual gamers such as these, it would have made sense for them to include multiplayer into it. The problem is getting it right- Prime 2 (which felt like a bit of a disappointment overall) had a ridiculous multiplayer which was basically: collect some items, lock on to your mates, then just tap A lots. It wasn't good. Hunters' multiplayer was really good for the DS, but the game didn't feel like Metroid.

So I think that to get a proper multiplayer Metroid experience it will be difficult to get it right. It could be great, I'm sure- imagine having guys like Rundas as a playable character, flying around with your awesome ice powers... so I'm not gonna rule it out. Metroid so far has been about single player, and if it can bring a good multiplayer too then great, but they have got to get it right. . . . .

I agree, should have multiplayer. I thought Hunters had fine single player considering it was on a ****ing handheld. Sheep seemed to be expecting a god **** console port. :/

metroid and multiplayer just dont mix thats all there is to it. metroid is strictly a single player story driven game. plus its about isolation, not being near another person for...mmmm well galaxies away, thats what gave metroid the distinction that other fps dont have. samus is sapposed to work alone(though in mp3 they did a good job of balanceing that out). not to mentoin metroid isnt about all out war blood combat. its about exploration and puzzle solving. i would like a multiplayer experience ( imagine playing as Rundas as someone said earlyer). but if it means screwing up the single player then no. and as i always say i dont want metroid to be ruing by immature 13 year olds yelling into a mic "i just pwn3d ju n00b!"

i agree. people who say that multiplayer would take away from the game as a whole overlook the fact that MP2 had multiplayer and the single player portion held up quite nicely as well.

In a Metroid game, it's far more important for the single player game to be perfect. I agree that online multiplayer in the Metroid universe would be lots of fun, but it seems like maybe that should be a different game. I liked MP3 a lot; it's one of the few games I've played through twice. I'm glad Retro focused on the single-player element and didn't try to add anything else at the expense of the main game.

I was mad that metroid prime 3 didn't have multiplayer becasue I really wanted to face some people online. I alsoliked metroid prime hunters multiplayer mode I thought it was fun so if they made metroid prime 3's multiplayer as fun as hunters I would stillbe playing metroid prime 3 right now.

Because they hated Metroid Prime Hunters, and think that Metroid is a sole singel player experience (which it is, but another Hunters wouldn't hurt, would it?).

if they Nintendo does go that way for MP4 i think they should do a 2 disk set. disk one only story( so they don't lose and space and ends up short). The second disk for Multi-player( go full upt so people will play for years) ... once again bungie studios has perfected the formula

Well it's a good thing MP3 didn't have multiplayer. Hunter's was a lame game. Multiplayer was good until glitchers and hackers infested it and even before they came, error codes popped up a whole lot. The single player is possibly one of the most boring experiences out there. Basically, Hunter's isn't good. It proves that Metroid should just stay the amazing singleplayer experience that it is.

Disk space isn't the issue, the amount of people Retro has to work with is. Bungie has somewhere around 3 times as many employees as Retro, and made a game with a much shorter campain.

Listen to the smart, hardcore gamers here. Metroid is a single player experience, always been, always should be. The single player mode is phenominal. Besides, look at the multiplayer of Prime 2 and Hunters. Both sucked. I'd take a great polished single player then a choppy single player and a so-so multiplayer.

Because Metroid is a single player adventure game like Zelda, not an FPS. Why aren't you complaining that Zelda doesn't have multiplayer?

Yes it did, the game had many short comings and overall It was always one step behind Metroid Prime 1 and that probably was because of Retro studios spending it's time on the Muiltplayer. Now if they did that again they probably would have to cut back on the main game and make it either less polished or shorter, just so they could have a Muiltplayer for probably 4 or 8 people, 16 if you where super lucky just to be out done by EA and MOH Heroes 2 and 32 players online with no FC's. Or of course Retro could delay the game making up it come up against Galaxy for sales. So no Muiltpalyer was better for it.

A: Its too late unfortunately.

B: There is no reason they shouldn't have put multiplayer into it.
