I love the combination of action and adventure. They balance each other quite nicely. Gameplay, design, story, soundtrack- always well done. It's the overall feeling of epic adventure it puts across. Oh, and no potentially annoying voice-overs.

To me:

Zelda > Any game, any day.

Zelda > Money

If I had to choose between living or playing a new Zelda and dying instantly I would go with the latter.

There's no reason to not love Zelda, it's so diverse in style that at least one game will appeal to any gamer.

No such thing as a bad Zelda, every game has its greatness.

Zelda Wii was announced, copy reserved instantly.

I'm a huge fan, not because of the story, characters, plot, dungeons, items etc...but because how Nintendo has combined all those elements beautifully.

Zelda is not just a game to me, is my thing, my hobby. What I like reading about, what I like talking about.

I simply can't imaging gaming without Zelda. But then again, that's my opinion...

i've been a fan since the NES days when I was a lil kid, especially when A Link Of The Past came to the SNES, I've been even more hooked to it! The greatness of its story, music, gameplay, puzzles, bosses, etc. have truly impressed me over the years. The franchise hasn't dissapointed me at all, when the next one come out for Wii, I'm bound to see something epic in the horizon.

No other action adventure game or RPG has dungeons as great as the ones in Zelda, few games have bosses as great as Zelda too. Those are the main reasons Zelda is so great in my opinion. To be honest when I want a great story I'll go elseware, but it works for Zelda, and Zelda is still one of my favorite video game franchises.

The sidequests are really brilliant also - it feels great whenever I get a new heart piece or bottle :P

The combat is brilliant - some of the best moments in the series are when you have to fight one on one duels, sword to sword (ie. in the forest temple with the two skull knights - yeah this is 2 on 1, I know :P). I don't know why they don't make fighting systems in modern games as smooth - take Assassins Creed, that feels so heavy and clunky when you fight, as opposed to the smooth grace of Zelda games. I mean, you don't even have the choice to stab, sideways strike, or overhead cut, - you can only "attack".

I do think the story is usually a bit forgettable. Final Fantasy X had a great story, which added to the gameplay and feel, but actually, while a better narrative would be nice, I don't think it ever hurts the zelda series. One thing I have been confused about for a while, is there meant to be any romance between Link and Zelda, or is it purely platonic? I always thought they would get together (not make love on screen, obviously, but maybe share a kiss and embrace for example), seeing as she's the damsel in distress and he's the heroic saviour, but maybe I'm wrong.

i agree

well link and zelda dont have a relationship, they are bond by the triforce. they always seem to like each other, and in some games they are like best friends. and if i recall correctly, the older zelda games had zelda kiss link i think ( i think in the adventure of link or something). and wel their always seems to be a feeling whenever link and zelda meet, because it doesnt happen too often, so i guess their is a hint of romance somewhere.

Yeah, that's the problem. In today's world, everybody just accepts the opinions of everyone everytime. I do keep it to some extent, but I will accept the opinion that he straight up hates the Zelda franchise. I am so far from accepting that opinion, that it's just wrong to hate that franchise. It's fine if he's not a big fan of it, but to straight up hate Zelda is intolerable.

The story is classic

the dungeon gameplay is awesome (although, I hope there are something like extra dungeons in Zelda Wii)

The overworlds feel alive. (Except in TP. There wasn't alot of things to do except hunt for heart peices)

The older games have a strange sort of charm to them.

there are the obvious reasons such as the great gameplay of puzzles and fighting. The awesome and beautiful worlds full of imagination and exploration to be had. The polish that goes into the game, and the fun story.

There is ALSO the less obvious things such as the AMAZING music that makes me SO happy when I hear it. And the charming unique characters full of fun and nostalgia.

I LOVE zelda games and this game is basically dependant on wether or not I ever buy another nintendo product again.

N-no! There are opinions that are not to be accepted. This is one of them. I'm not trying to convince him to like Zelda. Saying directly to him, "Your opinion is wrong," is not an act to try to convince him, at all. And if he really is just here to annoy people who love the series based on a thread dedicated to asking why you like Zelda, that's all the more reason to straight up say your opinion sucks and is wrong, minus the sucks part only because of the possible modding here at GS. I am not accepting this guy's opinion, nor am I trying to convince him otherwise why it's a terrific franchise.

I think it's problematic that nowadays we have to try to explain why we love Zelda games so much. Remember when Twilight Princess was hyped to be potentially the BEST game of all time? The first teaser for that game stirred up a powerful - almost maniacal - from the crowd at E3 '05. No doubt us Zelda fans are stoked for the newest installment, but you have to admit the series isn't held on the same pedestal it used to be. I feel that in the next Zelda the series really needs to reprove itself, it's not enough to flesh out and tinker with the formula and create another fantastic AAA quality Zelda adventure. The past decade of Zelda has been great, but mostly reminiscent of marvel of gaming that was Ocarina of Time. This is a new decade I want the next one establish itself as a new marvel of gaming. Do you guys agree?

I know what you mean and pretty much agree. I think zelda is an amazing series but is starting to hit that point where something needs to happen, BUT NOT TOO MUCH! That being said, Nintendo themselves said they are messing with the formula of how zeldas usually play, so this could be great, or REALLY awful. I am just worried because of Ninty's approach on things lately. If they remove the free-roam feel it is doomed for sure.

Its hard to pinpoint the reasons as to why I love the Zelda series. It's probably a combination of all of the various game's aspects. Gameplay, puzzles, story, characters, theme, setting, etc always seem to come together to make an outstanding game. There really is no simple answer to give for a game/series of this caliber. It would probably take a lengthy blog to do it justice.

I have to say some of the temples offer challenge like the Water Temple. The amount of sidequests, the open world of Hyrule, the little chime you get from doing a puzzle feels so satisying, The main theme and its story which sucks you in and wills you to play more and complete it. Also the games are some of the best in the world.

The atmosphere. Most Zelda games, such as OoT, MM, and TP, have this awkward, dark atmosphere, that makes it feel like you're in some twisted version of early medieval Europe. Along with the music, the nice controls, and the interesting storytelling, Zelda games just manage to capture and immerse me like few other games could. And even if you've explored each and every outcorner of Hyrule or Termina, those lands still maintain a sense of mystery and adventure that stimulates your imagination. As a kid I always wondered what would be beyond Lake Hylia in OoT, or what would be across the sea of Termina. And no matter how old I grow, these games still manage to feed my imagination and make me feel like a kid. Even the vagueness of the storyline is perfect, seeing as that shred of incomprehension and mystery is necessary to make the games truly feel like a legend: but one of many versions of a particular story which balances between fact and fiction. Nintendo supplies us with the basic components of the story, and the rest is up to our own imagination and speculation. I think they even purposely keep things vague because they don't want to bestow an absolute truth upon the fans and put an end to all discussion and speculation on the game's story and timeline. And this is why I love this series.

Wow, that sounded hazy. I'll go drink some beer now.

I remember playing the first Zelda gamee the summer of 88. I think I was going to 3rd grade the following year. I did not understand the game at first, because at that time it was mostly platformers. The gameplay in Zelda was tricky. People call them dungeons now< but I remember back then they were called levels. I could only find like 3 of them, and I could only beat like 2 of them. I played the game at night with the lights off and I remember feeling fear when in the levels because of the music. I think that is what made me like the game was how I felt with the music and darkness of the levels. Everytime I would discover a new level I was excited because you search and search and then bam!! A new level to get you closer to building the Triforce. In the first game there was only 2 Triforces. I finally beat the game before school started, and remember feeling really good. It was way longer than any mario game, and I spent a lot of time playing it with out STUPID CHEAT CODES (something I really dislike in gaming) At that age I didnt know about gaming politices and how the developments of games worked. I remember wishing a new Zelda game would come out for the Sega Genesis, but Ninty owned the rights so....That was it for me & Zelda. I dont buy systems based on the gamesor the franchises. I buy my systems based on controls. So because of that I have not played a Zelda game since that first one. I am interested in where the series is though.

Exploration, life-like atmosphere, music, puzzles, story, and combat are probably my reasons. That's just putting it in a user friendly form cause I can rave on and on about how much I love Zelda....
