Yeah, you read it right.

Lately, a number of Wii owners on these boards are crying "me too" when it comes to the content seen in "other" console's games. Some of you give off the impression that if a game is missing those elements (Blood, shooting, violence, sex, swearing, etc), if the game doesn't have an "M" rating, it's a waste of your time and money.

But I ask you, why? Why does content matter so much to you?

I mean, we're all just playing games here. No matter how "mature" you may think you are by playing them, they're still "games" (ie, what children play).

At this point, I can't figure it out. I have some theories, but I figure that maybe if I ask the people here who hold that mindset, they'll be able to fill me (and many others) in and finally reveal this mystery.

So again, why are these things so important to you?

He meant mature content, smart one. I will agree with you bob, mature content is overrated. Gore is just a way for people to get guilty pleasure out of video games.

Its not about them being important, its the fact that they are lacking on the wii for anyone who wants them. Some people prefer to play games with realistic graphics and more mature themes and content, its called taste. If they want a game with mature concepts and themes on the wii, why should they not ask for them? Does your annoyance overide there want for things that by all accounts, will improve the wii's library and give it even more diversity? Running around with annimated characters jumping on there heads to reveal stars and such is fine but some people want a balance and that balance isn't shown on the wii. Its not that the other consoles get this content, its that its sorely lacking on the wii when it comes to mature content and it should be there for anyone who wants it.

None of these things matter to me and i own one of the "other" consoles. Though i do like violent games but i do not need violence in my games for them to be fun. Also i really don't mind cussing as long as it fits in with the game like The Darkness there was a LOT of cussing but it fit the setting and story. As for sex i really don't need it in a game but i have played a game this gen that featured it but it really wasn't that big of a deal nor was it a big part of the game i just found it funny personally.

Because some people are never satisfied:roll:

I really don't pay much attention to M games (except NMH and MadWorld). As long as the game is good, I don't care how much blood is in there.

 I guess being a smart *** is frowned upon in the Wii forum.

On a serious note, I agree with Bob to an extent. I don't really care how the game is presented as long as the core aspect of the game is fun and interesting. There's no need for all the *****ing. I wish there were a fewmore mature games just to shut up the complainers though.

I've never really been one to judge a game based on its rating. I own my fair share of M games, but its mostly due to circumstances outside of its content. I got MadWorld because Clover/Platinum is one of my favorite developers, Mass Effect because of BioWare's excellent story telling, Riddick and The Darkness due to Starbreeze's excellent way of handling gameplay and story. Orange Box ..... well, there are about 800 reasons why anyone should get that, but I've made my point clear.

I don't think any game should have extreme content just because it can, and the games that do that I often stray away from. If a game has an M rating and I plan on getting it, there's more often than not a real reason for it to be as such, often because of the story it tells or the way it tells it.

All that said, I own more E and T games than anything else, and I'm 20. I also plan on playing the crap out of Klonoa in the following weeks. Which is about as non-violent as platformers get.

It's the Id man, it's the Id. I can do without the cursing and sexual content, but when I buy a game about butchering my sworn enemies, I want blood flowing in the streets. So maybe I want blood because it's not legal to slaughter my enemies in real life. Just being honest.

Ok, I agree completely, but as I said, I'm asking the people who feel like they NEED it in their games. It's not so much about the fact that it's nice to have it once in a while, it's when it becomes more like an obsession for some people. That's what I'm questioning.

They probably just have urges to play different genres. Sometimes i am in the mood to sit back and play all of my RPGs and other times i have no patience whatsoever with them and they bore me. I guess a lot of people are waiting for a violent game or they have played all of their violent games so much they are bored and want more? I guess they want their library of Wii games to be more diverse for what mood they are in.

My self esteem is such that I don't know if I'm really an adult. When I go look on my shelf if I have too many "E" rated games I feel like a baby, but when I see so many game cases with "M" on them then I know I'm a real man.

this is exactly why, i had the same attitude as TC when i had only a wii, while I STILL LOVE the wii and the origanal games it gets,i was absolutley tired of nintendos shift to soccer mom and casual gaming. i was tired of wii music/sports/play/fit/ect and cartooney games.

i needed some mature content so i made the jump to 360 and that got my fill.

though im happy now wii is finally getting mature content with no more heroes, deadly creatures, madwordld, conduit, HOTD, REDC, dead space and others.

I mean not every game needs blood, sex, and cursing to make me satisfied. Im satisfied with a game like Mario or Tetris but for some people they just like games like that and I don't care really that's just their way of liking games. True Wii really don't have a lot of M rated games and people want to experience something different in gaming sometimes that's why people love to see blood and violence etc. in their games. Makes the game sometimes better not gonna lie just imagine Madworld with no blood just cutting people up with nothing coming out of them. It will get boring and it wont feel like a Madworld. Mostly what makes Madworld great its the violence and cursing and dark humor. Idk its just what makes the game better. Not saying that every game needs that but some games do need those resources to make realistic and cool. I guess the reason why we need these things in our Wii games its for so we can feel happy cutting someone head off in our gaming time? Or I guess cause its cool for some reason. Its not everyday we see a guy with a chainsaw hand cutting people in half! The reason why we need these things is because we like it.

The problem isn't that some people want it. It's that some people equate these things with quality, even though it's often the opposite with mature content being used as a crutch for a bad game.

I say it makes you feel more powerful- makes the game more pleasurable. An enemy just falling over and dying is one thing, but nothing says MAJOR PWNAGE!!! like the enemy's blood and maybe a few body parts flying all over the place when you strike them down. It makes you feel less like you just defeated an enemy and more like you annihilated them.

Well if the question is only for them to answer, this thread will quickly become very quiet, because there aren't a number of them here, as this thread and this poll illustrates. The majority of respondents said they'll buy anything that looks good. A full 75% of users are either indifferent to the score or indifferent to those "mature" games completely. Another 9% can't even play them. That's 84% of GS users to whom this question is irrelevant. There are 8 users who feel they are the best games and 1 user who says they're addicted to them. Why do you care what 8 people think?

The most recent example is of people complaining about Red Steel 2. I've seen some people saying that there is no blood and being 'upset' by it. Its blood. It also doesn't fit the games art direction. I mean its just a visual aspect of a game. And if people want mature content, there is already mature content available on the console and there is more coming.

But the lack of blood in that red steel 2 trailer was stupid. Not from a like stand point since I really don't care about that but when he shoots the guy off the building I couldn't even tell there was impact. A little (not fountains or anything) blood would alleviate this problem. It helps give the player a visual clue impact was made.

You can do better than that, Click. That does not apply whatsoever. Of course people are going to say "I buy any game that looks good" because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If all you like is blood, violence, etc, you're going to believe that you only buy games that look good. Why? Because, to them, it looks good.

Yeah but even then - the trailer wasn't meant for consumers anyway. The trailer didn't have a HUD and the gun didnt have a pointer. So the best thing to do is probably wait till E3 I guess.

[QUOTE="Haziqonfire"]The most recent example is of people complaining about Red Steel 2. I've seen some people saying that there is no blood and being 'upset' by it. Its blood. It also doesn't fit the games art direction. I mean its just a visual aspect of a game. And if people want mature content, there is already mature content available on the console and there is more coming.Haziqonfire

Yeah but even then - the trailer wasn't meant for consumers anyway. The trailer didn't have a HUD and the gun didnt have a pointer. So the best thing to do is probably wait till E3 I guess.

I understand what you mean and I'll wait on RS2 but I'm just saying the complaining about lack of blood may not be due to being blood thirsty. If Ubi finds some way to make it so I can tell when there is impact I won't care aboutblood or not. We'll see though, I assume calling it red steel probably wasn't ubisofts best idea :P

We already have some.

[QUOTE="snover2009"]

I like blood and violence in my games.

I don't care too much about the sex and cursing as long as it has some form of purpose other than just being there because the developers wanted them there.

bob_newman

It's the Id man, it's the Id. I can do without the cursing and sexual content, but when I buy a game about butchering my sworn enemies, I want blood flowing in the streets. So maybe I want blood because it's not legal to slaughter my enemies in real life. Just being honest.

gamecubepad

...so there's that.

Ther is nothing wrong with snover2009's response, he enjoys blood and violence, so what? I enjoy vibrant games and puzzles, what's the big deal. gamecubepad well...................................................................I can't really defend that. :P

Coming from a guy who grew up with Nintendo consoles, I don't need them. Heck, I was playing Super Mario Galaxy for 6+ hours today.

Some games, usually ones on the more realistic side of things, are alright with blood and cursing. Although, I could do without sex in a video game.

Honestly I don't see why people think that the Wii needs mature content. Its suppose to appeal to fans, kids, and well anyone. But apparently it doesn't appeal to the mature hardcore gamers... I'm fine with the Wii and it not having too much mature games.

ActicEdge

There's nothing wrong with asking a genuine question, so I don't see what I'm doing wrong here.

If you don't like the question (I can't see why people wouldn't like questions), then don't answer it.

ArcticEdge has a point tho, why do they need to explain to you why they like what they like? ...it sounds like you don't like Blood, Violence, Sex, And Cursing in Wii game so you're never gonna agree with ppl who likes them. It will prolly end up being a mud slinging match.

Wii is suppose to appeal to everyone/family right? ..then why not teen/young adults/adults also who likes the above? or they don't count as in family?

thank you. im tired of the "me too" response when ppl ask for a game that interests them. it has nothing to do with wanting games on the other consoles but ppl just wanting a specific type of game to be more regularly available on a system they own. It's as if some wii owners think they know best for everyone.

So I can't ask a question? Is that what you're saying? People sure are getting defensive about this...

Its not about that - its about the fact that it seems as if people NEED violence in order to enjoy a game. Its as if without it a game is not enjoyable - and as you and I know, most people on sites like these try to put off what they say as fact. I understand if people like them - I just don't get people that seem to need them in absolutely every game they play in order to enjoy them. There is a difference.

Err, what forums have you seen this in? I have only seen about two people complaining about no blood on RS2, and one was an obvious troll:P

...its about the fact that it seems...Haziqonfire

Perception is not fact.

Oh my! The irony!

Just because I can argue with valid points doesn't mean I try to present what I say as fact, I'm not.
