yeah, i know, to keep the wierdos away from the kiddies, but metroid would of been so much better online with non FC voice chat and choosable game modes without them being friends or rivals. and then people just give their friend codes in forums like this one! who's with me on the basis that friend codes are a nuiseance and hold back the full online expperience?crunchUK
It's exactly as you said, to keep kids safe. We will probably never experience true online play from this generation of Nintendo. But, since they make some of the best games in the world, it might be a trade worth making.
^Friend codes aren't really keeping kids safe, just making it harder for those who would offend and prey to do so while crippling online play in the process. Truth is you probably do not need a chat room as nothing of interest or intelligence ever goes on in there, but not having a centralized meeting place to find games is just bothersome.
I see so many signatures that are just long lists of game names and numbers in hopes that someone will take the time to write their name down, input that long list of digits and hope to find them online at the same time. Is this what Nintendo had in mind? It shows that the company has little experience with online play and its a shame with such a great lineup of titles.
To answer the OP question, yes friend codes stink.
