i have no idea why they would even associate it with the wii. should have took that name out completely only becuase everyone asks me if its a extra peripheral. iv seen people return wiiu games saying it didnt work on their wii. Hell when i was trying to preorder mine from walmart and target the employees and managers kept telling me no such thing existed lol it was rediculous, i too am curious why they called it the wiiu

Yeah, I've seen so many shops near me having signs up around the Wii U games saying "Wii U games only work on a Wii U console", it's pretty ridiculous.Begs the question why people aren't confused when it comes to PS2/PS3 Xbox/Xbox 360, etc. Don't get me wrong, I've met my fair share of people who are dumbfounded when they are told a PS3 game will not work on a PS2, etc, but I guess it's just because the letter U is as subtle as anything
I've definitely seen the same stuff for the 3DS aswell, there was a lot of confusion with that.. Ah well
Marketing. The market of WII owners is uninformed parents, so they're not going to know what's going on or when to expect a new console. I have friends who are casual Halo/COD gamers who have no idea a new Wii was released. They did an awful job of marketing their product not to mention there aren't really any 'system sellers'.
