I have a 720p TV that supports 480p, but for some reason my Wii won't let me select 480p from the menu.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you on the screen in Wii settings where you can change the settings to "16:9" scale? Maybe that helps? Sorry, don't know alot about that.

I've tried using Component and S-Video.

It's greyed out on both.

Make sure everything is connected to the right socket, and not loose. If it still doesn't work, then IDK. Sorry

Maybe.................turn it off, plug in the component cables, if there's a reset button try it. Go in and set it to widescreen.

:/

Oh well, it looks somewhat better with S-Video, even if it's outputting 480i there are no jagged edges.

ABSOLUTELY sure its component, rather than composite? There are 5 cables? Because that's the only cause of a greyed out 480p selection I know of.

Component cables are the only one that can produce 480p. Make sure you are not thinking composite. Component cables are a FIVE cable bundle.

Also, off-brand cables sometimes dont work properly.

He says it's a 720p set. Besides, even if the set isn't HD, as long as you attach Component cables you should be able to select 480p. It just won't output correctly...

False. The set needs to be able to handle Enhanced Definition (480p). There are older TV models that might have had component cables that only allow the benefit of the separation of the colors. So, technically if the set isn't HD or ED then attaching component cables will not do anything.

It will do something on a SDTV. It will make remove gray on the 480p selection. If you select it, though, you'll get an insane distorted output. I know because I got bored and did it.

Sorry bout that, I misreadthat you put it just won't output correctly. I had just woken up from passing out while attempting to do homework.

I tricked mine into allowing me to select the 480p by plugging the GREEN component plug into the regular composite (YELLOW) video input. I needed to do this, as was hooking the Wii up via HDMI, but my TV strangely does not accept 480i.
