I picked up the Nintendo WiFi adapter to get me Wii online and it worked great...for three days and not it won't come on.  I uninstalled the program because windows (my first problem) said it wasn't recognized.  Now when I try to reinstall, when it gets to the "Please attach WiFi adapter" part it never recognizes that it is connected.  Anyone had this problem or something similar?

I don't understand. You bought a wifi adapter?  The wii has wifi already, why do you need an adapter?  By adapter do you mean ethernet cable?

He means the USB adapter that the DS uses if you dont have a wireless router.  It creates a wireless hotspot by plugging it into the USB port of your computer.

I bought one of those too and it didn't work for me.  I returned it to the store and got a wireless D-Link router for about the same price.  Just buy a wireless router.  Mine works great and probably has better range than the USB adapter to boot.

i agree, wireless router is the way to go, then not only can you use the wii and ds online, you can use laptops with it in the future. nintendo should have on their site about which ones are compatible, although most are.

Sound slike it could be a problem with the USB port. Have you tried plugging the adapter into a different port on your PC? Do other USB devices work on that port?

I have tried it in all four ports and nothing but all of my other usbs work fine.  I will have to check out the adapters and see what I can find.  Thanks for the advice.

Before I bought my Wi-Fi Connector the guy at Gamestop told me don't keep putting it in and out of the USB ports because it will not recognize it. Is that what you have been doing?

My wifi adaptor works fine.  Try turning off your firewall, that may help.

Turning off the firewall wouldn't help because it doesn't even come on.  And the taking in and out of the port isn't the issue because I didn't move it until it was acting up.

If you live in a college dorm, like me, you can't buy a wireless router and use it. You have to have the Wifi adapter. There is no other option less than getting a USB to ethernet cable, and that has issues as well.

How widespread are the problems with the adapter, because the recogntion issue is happening to me now and I don't have a receipt to take it back to Walmart, nor would they exchange an opened electronic good.

 Haha, I would get shot if I did that at my job. Anyway, I would still not even do that at home. Its not all that safe. Just open the ports that the DS uses.

On the Nintendo web site is says that the DS uses:

These are the required network protocols, ports and addresses for networks to be compatible with Nintendo DS Wi-Fi capability and the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector.

TCP: Allow traffic to all destinations on ports: 28910,29900,29901, and 29920
UDP: Allow all traffic to all destinations. (Necessary for peer-to-peer connections and game play)
