Hi I have now had a wii for two days but tonight is the first night I intend to leave the system on Standby (Wii24).  However I have read that some systems have been known to overheat when in standby!  Now my Wii is totaly cool when playing games, but when in standby the back of the system feels warm (not hot just warm), should I be concerned??

Thanks in advance.

Only when its running. Right now I've had it running for half an hour and it is slightly warm, but nothing to worry about.

all the wiis get warm. mine gets hot but if it overheats there is a trigger that turns right off if it is in any actual danger of dammage. ( red light ) if your yellow light turns red i suggest unplugging it for 30 minuets or so and put it in a well vented area. mine only turned off one time. it was sitting on carpet while on stand by. dont do that.. but no need to woriey about dammage.

It will be fine. It is the networking card that heats it up a bit. If you have an external wireless network card on your computer, feel it. It gets pretty warm, just like the Wii. That is all it is, its no problem.

There have been some issues with overheating when leaving your wii in 24/7 connect. I noticed my Wii would get farily warm when left in standby for very long. Then when I played games it would cool down because the fan actually runs.

A friend's Wii GPU actually got fried due to overheating. He hadn't played in awhile so the only contributing factors could have been it was in Standby-24/7 connect and it was laying horizontally. He got his Wii around Christmas so maybe this issue has been addressed in more recent Wii's or he just got a lemon. Either way I hope Nintendo addresses this issue soon. Until them I just won't use 24/7.

To see what affect a semi-cooked GPU has on the Wii checkout these images.

Again I don't think this is a wide spread issue, but definitely something that has happened to more than one person.

The Wii doesn't overheat

If your Wii DOES overheat it means you have a faulty Wii and you need to contact Nintedno for another

Don't be one of those suckers that buys a cooling fan for the Wii

The Wii was designed by Nintendo to be left on 24/7 and use very little power at the same time.  It will be fine.

First of all...

Think back to the gamecube...

When SA2B was out, I would leave my gamecube on for days and days, and though it was warm, it was fine... because the ventillation unit that is used was really good...

Second of all, This is the Wii. More importantly, the NINTENDO wii, the cooling system (correct me if I am wrong) is double the power of what the gamecube was....

So what does that mean? It simply means you are worrying about nothing, a small amount of warmth is nothing to fret about.
