I know that the wii is going through tremendous sucess right now. I love everything about it, EXCEPT those awlful wii commercials where they show people standing up, smiling, laughing, together on one couch. That's just so FAKE. Nobody is like that. Nintendo or whoever is in charge of making those commercials, are just making the wii look so CHILDISH, and LAME. These commercial were done great during the E3 where the wii was first playable. The mp3 commercial with the guy in the red shirt, and those red steel commercials with the guy in the black shirt.(I dont know how to make links) . Now they show the people playing with a fixed smile, I can't stand them, i would have done a better job. Does anybody else here think the same or what?

AND can somebody tell me how to make links .....................

1.) who cares about the commericals as long as you like the wii and like the games.

2.) you highlight the link you want you right click press copy. GO into new message/edit message and right click on the white space and click Paste. Then press like space or enter. Then press Submit

So you hate that the ads get the slogan in people's heads and work well in the mainstream media?

Yes, I think you're one of the few people who (probably) own a Wii and are mad their ad campaign is doing well.

Ok so you don't like the ads that you watch all the time but you don't even know the slogan they say? lol What? lol Come on you know it.

As for games yes games are GAMES, they're are not serious they're games. You play them to have fun and unwind. You don't succeed at life or get women or cure cancer because of them. They're games where every single game you are a little pretend character in a world of make believe. Yes, even if you play "mature" games the same rules apply.

Yes, nintendo has killed themselves with those commercials. i personally find htem repulsive and actually make me hate the wii. Even though i play it everyday. It comepletely turns off the 12-17 demograph. which is wehre htey should be targetting.

First of all you don't have to own the console, even if you didn't own one you're more then welcome to post away.

As for the ads they're the most distinctive ads for any console and have the most number of people actually match up the merchandise with the ad campaign.

What is bad about that?

The ads work, there's proof from sales and industry accolades showing they work yet you don't like them?

Whatever gets the job done.

Who ever came up with those commercials should be sacked imo. I saw on the Metroid Preview Channel a trailer called Dark Samus and it was really cool. If they showed that on BBC1 etc i think it would sell well here in the UK. I know they probably gonna show some stupid advert with a kid with a giant smile on his face (probably snorted some coke an hour before) that would mess the whole appeal of the game up!.

GAMES are a pastime, a pastime like baseball, basketball, knitting, maybe you are not using your energy as much as going outside and playing sports, but they're games that i enjoy in my free time, my pastime, they are in many cases childish when games that are aimed at children under 13 and 10 or whatever, but to say that m-rated games are childish, when they are aimed at the older crowd, is completely out of this world. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, everytime i see those WC, i turn away quickly. So enlighten me what is the slogan if YOU know it, you should right

Yet they already own Wiis so they're not the ones they're going after.

The people who complain about things WORKING WELL on the Wii are like the football players who don't care if the team wins as long as they score a touchdown.

"Wii would like to play" is the slogan. Games are childish, as is anything that doesn't directly earn you money or pertain to your survival. Being a child is about lack of responsibility. As you grow older, you may learn that being an adult really sucks.

I like those commercials because they're recognizable... it has that cleverness behind it like the Geico commercials  However I wasn't to fond of the ad when they did it with MP3 and RE4.... The game themes and wii ad theme didn't seem to go together... maybe it was the music...:? They could also tone it down on the 'happiness'... I can agree with you there that it's a bit overworked

1.) who cares about the commericals as long as you like the wii and like the games.

chill out! at least he backed his argument.
the reason i think the wii commercials are fake is because that amount of people can't possibly have nothing between their couch and TV.it's called a COFFEE TABLE!

If you are actually doubting whether the people in the commercials are actors and the living rooms are scenes set up specifically for the commercials, I don't know what to say.

Personally i liked the Wii commercials and i can't wait till they show the Super Mario Galaxy Wii would like to play commercial, but for them its one of the many reasons the Wii is selling so good and making alot of money, remeber the N64 days wheer they had lets how can I put it "cheezey" commercials lets take Super Smash Bros commercial pikachu, mario dk and yoshi they are skipping in a beautiful scenery and they suddenly start fighting each other, thats what help N64 sell. Commercials are one of the many ways Help Nintendo sell their consoles and the games. If it wasnt for that Smashbros commercial i would never got into Smashbros

I disagree. They show gameplay footage, show how people play the games, and show people having fun. The message is clear and direct. Now let's take a look at those PS3 commercials.

Traditional game commericals weren't working. You complainers need to learn what makes a succesfull marketing campaign., Your concepts would be rated F and would be considered the worst marketing in history while the wii commericals you despise are considered the most successfull video game commericals.

I understand what you are saying about them looking fake, but have you ever observed a gamer when they are playing games, really deep into their game? Most of the time, I see an face that is mostly expressionless, staring into a screen, and that does not make for good advertising.

I actually had a huge smile on my face when playing Prime and my friends and I really cut up and have a good time when playing Wii Sports.

You gotta think of it like this: All companies oversell their stuff. I've seen countless Coke commercials where the teenagers were having WAAY too much fun drinking a soda.

Are Mcdonalds burgers that great? Is Budwieser so good that just drinking it will make you more attractive to women?

Commercials are supposed to sell things. If you were the father of a family and saw a real demonstration of some fat guy lying on his couch, by himself, just slightly waving the Wiimote pathetically, andeating a bag of chips while crubs collect on his shirt, would you want to buy that? Do you think that is what people want to see? No, families want to see happy things.

I don't smile when i am playing my games, i just awe in the moment. I do get so concentrated in the game that i have an expressionless dead like look. You can say that you weren't smiling throughout the whole game of prime. By the way when I saw the mp3 commercial, i thought to myself, Is that commercial suppose to make an adult buy this game, because i see alot of adults there going ooooh and ahhhhhh.... which was hideious to me... Does nintendo honestly think that adults rush to the gamestores to buy wiis. No its there kids that beg them to get the cheapest console on the market. they got to shift their commercial focus from the adults back to the teenagers. where it belongs. MP3 is a hardcore game so it shouldn't show casual players playing it. Keep the happy smiles, the jumping the togetherness away from the hardcore games. Put those fake smiles with the party games, the casual games. Thats all iam saying, i should have stated this in my topic post but what the hell

I thought that the PS3 had worse commercials :?

The only Wii commercial I never liked was the Resident Evil 4 wii commercials....

Kikouken

I watched them on youtube... OMFG, they were so stupid.

Their commercials are great because that slogan is in everyone's heads

When will people realize that it's about a catchy slogan and that's it? That's marketing, get something in people's heads and keep doing it over and over and over.

As for the childish part all games are childish, they're games! lol

i freaking hate the commercials as well... i've complained about it several times to my friends whenever one comes on, but nobody seems to care.... i feel like Nintendo would be better served to show more gameplay footage or something... i would like to talk to whoever does their advertising and make 'em change it up

Ok it's the best advertising in all of gaming right now yet you would like it changed.

So the fact that it's doing well, the slogan is in everyone's head, and praised by it's peers. That doesn't matter.

You want them to ditch a successful ad campaign.

I have watched inumerable Wii game trailers and PC game trailers.

The PC ones are by far the best.

The cheapest and worst commercials I have ever seen are the Wii ones. Playing some GENERIC soundtrack during some gameplay footage and showing some stupid smiling faces (who probably are not even posing for the specific games the trailers are for- just poses during a video shoot for all upcoming commercials that they plug in) and barely showing any interesting footage- Come on!

Have you guys seen the World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, Starcraft, Crysis, etc. trailers?

They are REAL trailers, that get you excited about the actual game.

The OP had it right.

And I would bet against the commercials anyday as to the reason for the Wii's success. It is the pricing, pure and simple. As other consoles are more hardcore, offering many more mature rated games, for an overall more EXPENSIVE system, parents in today's economy think: ~$300 vs. ~$400-$600(until recent PS3 price drop). for games like Mario that they also probably enjoyed in childhood- Nintendo FTW!!!

P.S. The Commercials SUCK!!!!!

It's just that they make believe the only people who buy a Wii are married couples with at least two cute kids who go absolutely crazy about exaggerated flipping of the wiimote on some stupid minigame. I mean it's stuff that would anyone else go "meh".

And there's also the need to squeeze in the face of a happy happy person during any gameplay video, like they want to convince you "this game is really fun" even though the person obviously has no idea what's going on on the screen (as it's just a pose).

I'm not doubting its effectiveness when it comes to creating the Wii's image (casual, friendly) for the specific target market of families. But this is gamespot, we're gamers, and we're a totally different audience. These commercials deter the "serious" gamer, or it does me. We're the ones that complain about the casual games. Then we're also likely to complain about the commercials, as effectively proven by this thread.
