I think it's great. I think devs need more time with it though as some games have either used the controller in awkward ways or it's been quite unresponsive. Some games like Madden, Godfather, Wii Sports and GT Pro Series have perfect controls though. Even red Steel had great controls for the most part (excluding the sword fighting).
I can't wait to get the Zapper add on for it, that will really add alot to some of the games.
The Wii is great in a sense of controllers. It supports the wiimote, GC controllers, and the classic controller. Some games including MK: Armageddon utilize all three, and SSBB will do the same.
I think because of the wiimote it adds a new value to all kind of sport games: golf, tennis, American football, even racing! And there's no doubt why, it's just one step closerto feel like you're in the game.
