First let me say that this is no diss towards the Wii. I just got one and I love it. Love, love, love it. But please let me give my 2 cents on the Wii because I'm sure there are people that are still trying to decide if they want one or not. Hopefully, this will help some.

I had 'another' console that recently broke and I had to send it back. This motivated me to really try and score a Wii. I bought one online and once it arrived I bought SMG. I also downloaded a slew of old school Nintendo games. And I've been having a blast.

But I keep feeling like somethings missing. And I sooned realized that that something was online multiplayer. Sure there are some games that support MP, MOHH2 which sports an impressive online mode. But these games are few and far between on the Wii. I know that this doesn't matter to a lot of gamers. And probably it shouldn't for Wii owners. Nintendo's games are so charming and fun that it makes up for lacking online play.

But I am a gamer who likes to play online. And even though the Wii offers a different and fresh experience, I still missed playing online. So with that being said, if I had to pick just one console I don't think I would take the Wii just based on my own preferences.

But if you are an avid online gamer who already owns another console, I strongly recommend picking up a Wii as well. It's a great system that offers a lot of fun.

Well, it should be no suprise to you if you had done your homework before the purchase.

I did but my dog ate it.

No, seriously I knew about the lacking MP, I just didn't think I would miss it that much.

Online play is cool, but having a friend in the same room swearing at each other is a hell of a lot funner. The Wii isn't a lonely console, it encourages multiple people to play in the same room.

Like Mario Galaxy, my wife loves being the 2nd player collecting the star bits and holding down enemies. This is normally a game she wouldn't get anywhere near, it's too complicated for her, but we actually are able to play it together.

Wii Sports, same thing. Anytime I bring it over to someones house everyone wants to play.

Hell, even with the older games. Just this Thanksgiving, me and my family spent most of the day playing the classics together.

Mario Strikers is a hell of a lot funner playing with someone in person than online, even if it had voice chat. Same will go for Smash Bros., it just won't be the same online.

If you're a person who prefers to isolate yourself from actual people and play online with people you never met before than playing games with friends and family who are in the same room, then no, the Wii shouldn't be your only system.

Sorry I have to come in here and prove the thread wrong but hey, it's what I seem to do.

Lack of online means that in order to play games with others you need real live people playing with you in the same room.

The entire point of the console and games like Wii Sports is to bring people together in the same room to play games together.

So no, if anything the Wii is the console for people to play together. It's sad in today's society that playing online is thought of as playing with company.

I can relate to how you & your wife can play the Wii together. Same thing has happened w/ my g/f and I. We play Wii sports together all the time and she never used to play games that much.

But honestly, I do like to isolate myself from human contact since I am very anti-social. I don't have many friends and my family lives far away. So playing online MP is really my only way of socialing w/ other people.

Sounds to me the Wii isn't the lonely person console after all then. Sounds like you need a World of Warcraft account, not a Wii. I'm not trying to be mean or funny, I'm serious.

Call your real friends over, put in Wii Sports or Warioware and there you go. Some of the best MP that can be had.

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenachi 3 has online multiplayer and came out yesterday on December 3rd. I haven't played it yet but I think its gonna be awesome; It looks amazing too.

I think more and more games will start to have online play for the Wii.

I personally dont care about online play if the game is awesome. Like for MP3, Galaxy, and Twilight Princess, I didn't care that there was no online play cause the games kicked some hardcore fun and are all immersive 1 player experiences. Most multiplayer games would be better if they were online though.

I bought the Wii mostly for the single player adventure and action games...Strikers is fun online but broken in many areas...Mario Kart Wii will change everything.

The Wii is the perfect compliment for PC gaming. I get my online and graphics fix with PC gaming and the Wii serves as my main single player experience/party game experience.

To be honest, you view on the Wii Online Gaming has been taking far too early.

Atleast give it a few more months for developers to create games that will support the online system. They can't just just pop-up when we want them.

That's why I have a PC. I don't believe in online gaming on consoles. I will only play at SSBB and Mario Kart online.

So who is more lonely? A person that has to play online to play with someone, or who has to invite someone physically over to their house to play with a friend? I believe the wii is less socially inclined to loneliness, from a traditional standpoint. Go find a friend.

I think a lot more online games will come just give it some time:D Nintendo made a huge improvement with onlline comparing the wii to the gamecube which only had like two online games i dont no(the only one i no is Mario Kart which i never played online). Nintendo will have everything you just have to wait and playing with another guy beside you is more fun anyways. Thats what i missed in MoHH2:D:D

I got no problem waiting since I'm still having fun w/ it. And for me, i think i had the most fun w/ Goldeneye's MP on the 64. Which was not online. So you gotta good point.

wii's online compatibility is increasing since MOHH2 is doing well its going to inspire other third party developers to try harder when their making online games for wii. More online games will come out. Any way in terms of local multiplayer the wii is great at that.

Very true. Drunken Wii Bowling.

Just make sure to enforce the STRAP SECURELY rule when people are drinking. They may think you're being a nazi but do it anyway. I learned that after my buddys new girlfriend got toasted and launched the WiiMote across the room hitting the wall just inches from my flatscreen. I was about to kill her.

My father-in-law launched one of our wii-motes at the wall playing bowling. The B-button has been hyper sensitive ever since.

Sorry... revised: seeming a lot of people are having a hard time finding it you could invite a few people over and show them it. Or if they already have one you can have a gaming night where you can try out different games. If you don't have a big collection maybe rent a couple that both parties can try out that you just haven't decided are worth buying yet.

Funny, most people consider the hardcore online multiplayer gamer to be the lonely one.... in the basement.... living with their moms... :P

Seriously though, the "lonely person's" console is sort of the opposite of Nintendo's philosophy with the Wii. It's for people to play together in the same room having a good time or like a family environment.

I agree. Who doesn't like it when its just you and a bunch of friends smack talking on SSBM? Especially when it takes 3 of them to beat you? But then again I would like a online ranking for SSBB

Real friends in your living room > online "friends" any day. Online is both a great and horrible addition to gaming. Its nice to play against people anytime of day, but it'll never be better than actual interaction with people, and developers get lazy and make mediocre games with "great" online.

I agree that it is more fun playing with other people in the room, but i never have played online before guitar hero and MOHH2 the only reason i never played was cause im cheap and i dont feel like paying for more than one internet so the wifi on the wii was the best thing for me.. Im sure that more online games will come out soon like SSBB

Online multiplayer is great and all, but nothing beats playing a game with three of your closest friends, getting tattered, making jokes, and all that. Those are really good times and they will never be beat by any online multiplayer, ever. Well, in my opinion, anyhow.

You consider playing online not lonely? You're sitting in a dark room by yourself, and you're not lonely?

Bring people over, play with them in real life, like it should be.

Online is a great way to play with people if no friends are available, but I would take friends over online any day.

If you were to play drinking games by yourself, while playing online, people would say you have a drinking problem. But if you play drinking games with other people in real life, it's just casual, social drinking. Strange analogy, I know, but it shows that there's something wrong with playing online all the time. There's a reason why so many Wii games say "1-4 players" on the box. Videogames are best played with company.

I completely agree. Why make 2-4 controller ports if its not meant for multiplayer. Look at sony (2 ports). See how well their doing?

There ain't anything better than playing Co-op with your girlfriend. You'll find that out one day, Yucky_Straw. One day.

I don't know about that. I play more multiplayer games with my wife and friends than on other systems. Especially Wii Sports.
