First let me say that this is no diss towards the Wii. I just got one and I love it. Love, love, love it. But please let me give my 2 cents on the Wii because I'm sure there are people that are still trying to decide if they want one or not. Hopefully, this will help some.

I had 'another' console that recently broke and I had to send it back. This motivated me to really try and score a Wii. I bought one online and once it arrived I bought SMG. I also downloaded a slew of old school Nintendo games. And I've been having a blast.

But I keep feeling like somethings missing. And I sooned realized that that something was online multiplayer. Sure there are some games that support MP, MOHH2 which sports an impressive online mode. But these games are few and far between on the Wii. I know that this doesn't matter to a lot of gamers. And probably it shouldn't for Wii owners. Nintendo's games are so charming and fun that it makes up for lacking online play.

But I am a gamer who likes to play online. And even though the Wii offers a different and fresh experience, I still missed playing online. So with that being said, if I had to pick just one console I don't think I would take the Wii just based on my own preferences.

But if you are an avid online gamer who already owns another console, I strongly recommend picking up a Wii as well. It's a great system that offers a lot of fun.

You consider playing online not lonely? You're sitting in a dark room by yourself, and you're not lonely?

Bring people over, play with them in real life, like it should be.

Online is a great way to play with people if no friends are available, but I would take friends over online any day.

If you were to play drinking games by yourself, while playing online, people would say you have a drinking problem. But if you play drinking games with other people in real life, it's just casual, social drinking. Strange analogy, I know, but it shows that there's something wrong with playing online all the time. There's a reason why so many Wii games say "1-4 players" on the box. Videogames are best played with company.

There ain't anything better than playing Co-op with your girlfriend. You'll find that out one day, Yucky_Straw. One day.

Are you saying I can't get a girl?

but yeah, not a lot of multiplayer happening on the wii. do yourself a favor and rent mario strikers & invite a friend over. or just enjoy the online.

I like gaming online, but it quickly wears thin. I've been playing games for 20 years, and before the last 4, almost all games were geared towards entertaining a single player. Or two people sitting in the same room. I like to escape when I play games, not have some 12 year old screaming nursery rhymes in my ear so I yank my headset off in frustration. Not my idea of adult entertainment. And yeah, I've played with my adult friends, and it IS fun, but coordinating a play session with our hectic lives in a real rarity. With a game like SMG, I can play for 10 minutes, or 5 hours and still be entertained. Which is why Wii's non-online focus is just perfect for me.

The two "i"s in Wii resemble two people playing together in the same room for a reason. Offline MP > Online MP all the way.

I completely agree. It seems a lot of games are focussing only on the multiplayer aspect these days too at expense of a story or reason for mashing all those buttons. Sure schooling people is fun and all, but it does grow tiresome after doing it since Doom online play. And leader boards are usually geared towards those that have all day everyday to play. There's just not much there anymore for me.

Anyone who plays alot should not have just a Wii. I think everyone shoud own either 360/Wii or PS3/Wii.

My girlfriend and I just pumped 2.5 hours into Wii sports last night. Just trying out the games and having fun. Normally we don't play much together because she doesn't like my games and I don't always like hers. The Wii is a common ground. I enjoy it immensely and I hope you branch out and start doing the same.

I completely disagree with you, I would say the online gaming is more for lonely people because online is better suited to somebody that has nobody around them to play with. I myself am lucky to get 30 minutes in a day to myself :? so I consequently always have somebody to play games with and the Wii really seems to be aimed at you and friends/family sitting on the sofa together having a laugh. I actually only enjoy online games with people I know in real life, and sadly I find my friends just aren't playing these days :(.

I have a Wii and I'm not lonely. I have a girlfriend and lots of friends. Sure, the Wii's online service isn't that great, but at least it has it. Just because the Wii's online service isn't tha good and you can't play against someone else you don't know doesn't mean it's a lonely console

Thx for input and I see thatI was wrong to generalize the Wii by saying it's for lonely people. Let me please revise that to"Wii is a lonely person's console if that person doesn't play very much local multiplayer and has a girlfriend who does not play videogames that much."

have you tried MoH: H2, Mario Strikers Charged, Pokemon Revolution, any EA sports game, DBZ: BT3, and some more minor titles. My point is its there and supporting those online games not only helps fix your lonely problem but it helpssupport these online games which sparks more online games.

Sorry I have to come in here and prove the thread wrong but hey, it's what I seem to do.

Lack of online means that in order to play games with others you need real live people playing with you in the same room.

The entire point of the console and games like Wii Sports is to bring people together in the same room to play games together.

So no, if anything the Wii is the console for people to play together. It's sad in today's society that playing online is thought of as playing with company.

I'm not sayin you can't get a girl. I was sayin in maybe 10 - 15 more years. But who knows, you might get lucky.

why is playing video games with your girlfriend the last thing you would be doing, Cyber? Are you implying that your girl (if any) is just the same as every other girl?

I still have a lot of friends that play the multiplayer VC games with me... I have 4 Wii Remotes, 2 Classic Controllersand 2 Gamecube controllers, so 4-player is possible with old games, and there should be much more online multiplayer action to be had in February when Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out... I'm pretty sure that will consume my life for a few months at least.

First off the Wii has alot of online games and more and more on the way, including Mario Kart and Brawl. However the Wii offline is the ultimate multiplayer system, you walk intoa room featuring both the Wii and say a 360 which is pretty common. Everyone wants to jump on the Wii for multiplayer, also I must say ladies love the Wii.( no pun intended)

Despite the Wii's slow start into online multiplayer, which we all could have predicted after the gamecube and the slow start WiFi on the DS had, I think that a lot of the games which should have online multiplayer will in the future.

However, I think Nintendo is different in how they view what games should be online multiplayer. For example, Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Party 8 both had no online multiplayer. While there were some disappointed fans in both instances, I think they both demonstrate Nintendo's view that online multiplayer isn't always necessary. I know that if multiplayer was put in Metroid Prime 3, the single played adventure would have lost a good deal of development time and we would have a repeat of Metroid Prime 2 on our hands. And, of course, online Mario Party just isn't practical.

So I definitely agree that the Wii isn't a system which strongly focuses on online multiplayer, but I think in time we will be given enough of it to keep many Wii owners satisfied.
