Call your local major retailers and go there before opening when they get in new shipments
Avoid specialty game places like Gamestop when looking because there's a litany of stories of people who have either reserved a Wii or contacted the store and was told there were Wii's and when they got there, no Wii's.
To get one, is all a matter of getting up early and asking at a Best Buy or Gamestop.
DONT YOU WISH YOU HAD PRE-ORDERED. =D
But yeah, if that fails and you REALLY REALLY want one, you can always get one offline.... for a hundred bucks more.

or you could find someone who has one and have a duel for it =)
I have yet to see a Wii "in the wild" at any store, nor have any friends of mine (in several states). I'd love to be able to pick up a few as gifts this holiday season (something I intended to do last Christmas), but I'm starting to wonder if they'll even be available this year.
It sounds like there are numbers of them in specific places, but between online vendors being constantly sold-out and local shops never having them in stock, I have no clue where these places are.
where do you live that it's "sold out everywhere"? I see it every time I go to the mall or retail stores.feryl06

More and more people are saying Wiis are available where they live, but there's still lots of people who've never seen a Wii on a store shelf. This is all anecdotal evidence, so there's no way to really know how available Wiis are on average. I still haven't seena Wii for sale.
When I've looked for Wiis just for the hell of it at Target and Walmart they both had multiple 360s AND PS3s, but not even 1 Wii. I've never seen one in a store...but I also haven't been trying to find one...
I live in upstate New York.
ive only seen one wii just sitting there waiting to be sold. it was in a walmart and i swear, i walked into the next aisle, came back, and a woman had bought it in a span of three minutes
still rare where i am
Places in my city (Vancouver, Canada) that sell Wii's:
EB Games (2 stores in my area)
HMV (3 stores)
Zellers/The Bay (2 stores)
Best Buy
Future Shop (2 stores)
WalMart (though it's in a nearby city, not in Vancouver. We have a by-law against walmarts here)
Toys R Us
As well as a number of smaller speciality stores.
All of that, and it still took me 7 months from launch to find one. They're starting to pop up randomly in stores lately though.
To be honest, Nintendo just ain't distributing right. There are corners of the world, where there are plenty of Wiis on store shelves such as here in Finland. Of course it's a small country and the few Wiis here wouldn't satisfy demand overseas even if distributed there as (not the exactsame units dumb*ss, NTSC-versions of course).
It's playing catch up. To be honest they are close to selling the same number of consoles as the 360, in half the time. That is impressive.
I called Best Buy Sunday in my area, they had 4 in. Called Wednesday to double check b4 I went to buy, they were all gone. But decided to call our Walmart, and Bam, they got 4 in that day. If you have the funds just call your local stores each day till ya succeed. :P
not everywhere. i town i live 10 minutes away from had 28 wii's at a best buy.Shuramon
but yea and by the end of the day they all gone
They switch up what region is going to get the lion's share of shipments every few months. Right now the US is getting a ton but they are also stockpiling units and stores are doing so as well for the holidays.
Europe got more then usual numbers of wiis for the launch of Strikers will the US got lots of units for Metroid Prime 3. When certain releases hit Japan units will be diverted there but since Japan is right next to the factories it takes far less time for that.
Nintendo is supplying the entire world with a console that is either selling out in most areas or selling extremely well.
Microsoft and Sony would love to have the problems Nintendo is having right now.
