If this so called "game" sells like hotcakes, I fear to think what Nintendo will come up with next. I have been right there with Nintendo and their expanding audience role since the Wii was first announced. I like the idea of opening up gaming to a bigger audience. But from everything I saw and read about Wiimusic at E3, this is just a whole new level of casual. The idea that all you have to do is wave your Wiimote around to make music is silly, and worse goes against the very idea of what a game does, it challenges. The guy at E3 who asked Miyamoto how WiiMusic differs from a toy hit the nail right on the head.
Worse, the fact that as things stand right now, WiiMusic and Animal Crossing are the only Wii games Nintendo will be offering this Holiday period disgusts me. For the first time I will nto be buying a Nintendo 1st party game in the October/November/December period. I would actually recommened to anyone interested in a Wii to wait until Wiimotion+ launches next Spring. That's a 7-8 month wait. That's a long time.
Heck, if it were not for games like Sega's Mad World and High Voltage's The Conduit coming early next year, I'd put my Wii on eBay right now and just buy a Wii about a year from now when some devs could do some interesting things with Wiimotion+.
Where's Kid Icarus, Punch Out w/ Balance Board, Star Fox, F-Zero, Disaster Day of Crisis, or just any new IP all together for the more dedicated and traditional gamers from Nintendo this year?
I'm really dissapointed in Nintendo this year, and I love them and the universe of gaming they have created. I really hope Wiimusic fails in sales and Nintendo gets a lesson of when casual gaming and the quick cash it brings them goes a little to far.
