Hey everyone,

I'm reading all over the internet about how HDTV owners would like the wii to upscale to 720p, why is that. Isn't it so that every HDTV upscales the image to there native resolution or is there a difference in picture quality.

Please explain it to me.

thanks in advance

Every HDTV makes the source video fit it's screen, yes, but the amount of pixels are dependent solely on the source material. Nintendo can get you 480p and that's it. Upscaling, which is done by hardware andnot the tv, would output a great resolution (say 720i or 720p) but it still wouldn't be nearly as smooth as if the game was originally designed to run at that resolution. Uscaling is, in a way, stretching video out to show on a higher resolution screen. Nothing beats a true HD source.

I hope that all makes sense, but somehow I doubt it...

EDIT: I just realized that I never really answered the question. What your TV does is pretty much stretch 480 pixels and make it a lot more pixels. The size is greater, but the resolution is not. Some TVs are better about this than others, but generally speaking the stretch doesn't suit lower resolution material (i.e. standard RF cable on an HDTV)

so basicly what u say is that a tv dous not upscale the picture however it streches the picture to the resolution. but if you have an upscaler or that sort of thing you will get a greather picture with less jaggy's than without an upscaler. (is it also also a little sharper this way or not)

He says that the TV DOES NOT upscale, it's the HARDWARE used.

TVs upscale, they have that built in. If that wasn't the case, when you put a 480p signal into a 720p TV it would only fill the middle 2/3 of the screen. The TV's hardware is able to stretch out the picture. I've never used a separate upscaler, but I can see how someone could make a device with a better scaling algorithm than the TV has in it.

My Wii looks great on my 36" HDTV, with the component cable.
