Get used to speaking to friends online! Nintendo has announced Wii Speak (TM) at E3 08. Instead of going the conventional route with a personal headset, everyone in the family communicate online at the same time!

For $29.99 MSRP. Wii families can set their sensitive microphone on top of the Wii sensor bar without worrying about missing a single sentence! The first game announced to incorporate this functionality is the newly introduced Animal Crossing: City Folk (sold seperately). Now entire rooms can talk to people across Nintendo's Wi-Fi, making the Wii Speak a central communication system for anyone with access to a broadband connection.

No more messy speakerphones, Wii Speak will arrive in retail this fall, and hopefully will be part of your Nintendo Wii collection.

UPDATE 3: Much more professional, organization was needed.

Pretty lame if you ask me. I am going to have to yell across the room for the microphone to pick it up.

Well now we'll get voice chat enabled games. That means that we'll get third party microphones too.

wii speak will be decent for AC and thats it!!!

in fps games online its gonna pick up so much interference not to mention it plays ppls voices through the tv speakers which means you wont be a able to hear a word they say!!!

360 gives u an option of playing voice throgh the speakers and it sounds HORRIBLE when compared to an ear piece1!!

Hopefully the Wii Speak is actually an array-style microphone. These can sorta cancel out background noise.

I highly doubt that. I use a 10 year old microphone with my computer and it can pick up what I'm saying from halfway across my house with my door closed.

Yeah, if Wii Speak is anything like that (I'm sure the technologies improved over the past decade), then I'm sure that won't be an issue.

EVERYONE hopes that we'll have an update. But I don't think it's possible, that is, unless we get a HDD!

The mic is great if it works properly. It's the same as using Skype on a laptop with a built in mic, which works just fine.

its not the same as a laptop! in a fps their is to much noise from sound effects, with the voice comes from the speakers u wont be able to hear anything!!

ive tried that feature on my 360 (playing Voice through speakers) and it sounds HORRIBLE!!

its soooooooooo much clearer in a ear piece!

That sounds like poor speakers to me. And I'm pretty sure the games that I played while using skype also had sound effects.

i dont sit right in front of my speakers when i play like u would do with a laptop, i sit on a couch across the room, so unless i turn the volume all the way up im noy gonna be able to hear 90% of what ppl r saying from a speaker across the room, escpecially when gernades and machine gun fire are going off at the same time!!!!!!!

thats why sony and ms have a nice little ear piece that fits snug in ur ear so u can hear the voices without disturbance on their own auido line!

According to a new press release by Nintendo, the WiiSpeak will be sold separately for $29.99. They said it would come bundled with Animal Crossing. So why would they release it separatley? Could this mean an update will let us use it in SSBB and Mario Kart Wii? Or will it be for a whole new game altogether?

I'm sure there will be third party software from companies like logitech that will make it into a headset (I don't see how it wouldn't be possible).

Some of you still don't understand how the wii is a family system, having to buy two or three different mics for everyone to chat and listen to others would just turn into a pain for families who don't want to spend a lot of money in to gaming.

well the cord they showed between the mic and the wii seems pretty long if its anything lik the sensor bar cord than u can extend it and put the mic rite beside you when you play therefore less interferance and if anything lik me i play video games in my bedroom so its quiet so shouldnt be too much problem but its good none the less

Can someone pls help me with this ...

I missed the N conference... I read a couple of updates in kotaku.com... but...

Maybe i am kind of lost with this, I did not watch how it worked and the news have not help much in explaining this. But if the micro thingy goes over the sensorbar and I would be about 1.5 meter away at least... how is taht going to work??

also any news of which game would use it beside Animal crossing thingy...

Thx.

btw: Thx god I have quite a few games that I like... bc conference this year... imo... BAD

EDIT: I`m not worry that it would cause noise interference ... bc I rent a 2 room basement and one of those rooms is my videogame/entertaiment room... so.. And I do not have fan... A/C :P What I`m worry is how sensitive is to catch my voice.. would I have to yield?? why putting it so far,.. ( pry more family games in mind... :? :P )

it just will work, other wise they wouldn't have made it, it will allow you to talk to people on-line and hear any one else who has one when they talk on-line. They didn't realy explain it they bearly showed what it looked like.

i'm glad Nintendo is bringing some sort of mic out, it's a start at least. But they never mentioned any other games being able to use the mic, or games that will eventually support it of any kind.

I'm actually quite pleased as the only people who would be in the same room as my wii would be my friends who don't come over too often anyway. This was my favorite anouncement at E3 (this and animal crossing). Good job nintendo now just fix the storage problem

sold seperatly?? that sux, i guess im not getting one then,

the 360 and ps3 let u use ur own headset, and u also get a LOT more use out of voice chat on those systems since basically EVERY game supports it!

NOW in nintendos case they release it AFTER ssbb and mk so right now theirs maybe only a handfull of games that can really use it and the best part! ITS NOT EVEN a headset!!! worst idea ever, the whole wii speak set-up is bad, i didnt even mention the fact u probably wont even be able to talk to ppl without fc's....

Why is everyone talking like they know how the Microphone is going to work we really haven't seen its true potential or even if there is any settings to the mic. Everyone cried for voice chat and now its here but not in a form of how everyone wanted it but its hear so ppl stop complaining this is the first big step to many more things Nintendo will have for us so just be patient.
