I saw a Steering Wheel attachment for the Wii mote and was thinking of picking it up. I'm not normally a racing fan, but I also never played sports games until I tried Wii Sports. I was thinking of picking up Excite Truck or another racing title and this attachment. Does anyone own one of these steering wheel attahcments, and are they as fun to use as they look, or are they just a gimmick that adds nothing to the play value?
I think most likely they are just gimmicks. The only thing they add is that people probably have a better idea of what type of game you are playing when your moving around like crazy than they would if you were using the Wii-mote only.
No actually they are not just gimmicks, i have two wheels, they were very cheap and for games like xcitetruck they just make the whole experiance in some way more well rounded. It feels soooo much better to hold than just holding wiimote on its side. So yea pick one up im from uk and they r 0nly bout £5-£6 over hear.
They aren't necessary, but they do help a bit. I have 2, of them and i think it helps me steer better. Although my wife thinks its easier with just the wiimote. I guess it depends on preference. If you do get one, don't get the Ubisoft wheel. It sells for $20 and is missing the top part of the steering wheel. The atari one is only $10 and has the entire steering wheel.
Im not sure if steering wheel works that good for excite truck because excite truck is played by tilting the controller not buy turning it like a real steering wheel. But I haven't tried so Im not sure.
Excite trick is quite fun but that steering wheel is a waste of $. Essentially its just a piece of plastic - you could tape the wiimote to a plate and it'd do the same thing.
The steering wheel attachement if you actually looked at several wii games is packed in with said games. GT Pro for instance. Basically these racing games are 29.99 seperate but they aren't sold seperate of the steering wheel.

No, in order to steer you have to hold the Wii-mote at either end and "drive" as though you were gripping a steering wheel. I have Excite Truck, and I'm pretty good at just holding the Wii-mote. I've never tried the steering wheel attachment though, but I imagine it would make it easier to grip.
I've the black steering wheel. It came with Gt Pro. I used to use the wheel a lot during the beginning. But now I can't be bothered to pick up the wheel & insert the wiimote. :| I want it to be as simple as possible. just me & the wiimote. no evil wheel between us.
I thought the wheel wouldn't work with Excite Truck because you have to hold the button down for the gas? Seems like it would just be more trouble than it's worth, but then again I haven't tried it so I can't say for sure.
