Your friendscode is essentially your gamer tag. So I doubt it. They might integrate a system to make it easier though.

It is going to be like the DS online. Probably a bit easier because of the console code instead of individual friend codes. Gamespy did the DS online too and they said that it was "innovative" and make it sound like the DS online was great, and that they are bringing that online to the Wii. Don't get your hopes too high. This is not gonna be Xbox Live material. I think it will be closer to the PS2 online. Which is just fine by me.kukukukDo I have to quote this for you guys to understand? this is the DS online pretty much. Just upgraded a little bit. QUOTES: Prior to this development agreement for Wii, GameSpy and Nintendo brought gamers wireless community options for Nintendo DS™. The service provided an innovative network for portable video games, allowing people around the world to link easily and wirelessly to play games. The partnership represented GameSpy’s first foray into portable games. “Nintendo has been an invaluable partner and we look forward to expanding our relationship with them in the future,” said Jamie Berger, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products and Technology for IGN Entertainment. “Our goal is to extend our ground-breaking work on the Nintendo DS to provide Wii users with the social, community and multiplayer tools that we believe will expand the online gaming experience to the mass market.” They are just expanding the DS online onto Wii.
I've never had any problem with the way online play for the DS works. The only addition that might be good is chat before and after games. I don't want to deal with people cussing and randomly dirty talk during a game. I don't have any problem with friend codes either. I don't like ranked matches though. I think that's a bad idea for video games in general.smileyryder34So, you're cool with a basic non-centralized service. That's fine. A great number of us would like something a bit more thought out and integrated, and the legions using Live would seem to agree that's the target. Nintendo using that for the Wii would result in yet another 'feature' that people rarely use because it's too much of a hassle and not well enough thought through.
People really aren't getting this. They've been partners with Gamepy for years now: that's where the DS network comes from. There is nothing here that indicates it will be *any* different than the DS network, friends code and all. It's another piece of evidence that it *will* be like the DS network, friends codes and all.
This is bad news, not good.

Hopefully they'll teach Nintendo a lesson in online and get rid of those friend codes while they're at it.tomarlyn
