Anyone know if there is going to be a price drop soon?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I was thinking about this today...
Until the Wii slows down or the core ($300) xbox360 drops its price Nintendo has no reason to drop price... This is pretty standard thinking cuz the 360 is the oldest. But...
I was thinking the 360 may not drop until the Wii does. MS knows that when they drop down to $250 for a 360 nintendo will at least go down to $199. That may actually be something MS wants to avoid. I think consumers love that $199 pricepoint and your brain tells you its alot less than 250. Am I making sense? As long as MS is doing well, why pressure nintendo into that market? As long as Nintendo is profiting on the populr Wii why lose that crop if MS isn't pushing it?
It may all depend on the PS3... am I making ANY sense to anyone other than me?
P.S. For what the Wii does it is a bit expensive. Anything that launches at a profit in this industry is expensive IMO...
i hate when people ay this...its not like its worth 250 bucks...it could be less saying that is like comparing the price of regular toothbrushes and spinbrushes (sorry for the very bad analogy) one has better technology and the other doesnt but they both work (again sorry) ...idkthe wii is too expensive?
Have you looked at the prices on the current competition?
felbunny
first, wat that one kid was saying about microsoft price drops and the 199.99 price do make sense. A 199.99 price tag looks a hell more attractive then a 249.99 one.
That being said xbox 360 regular system will probably drop in price when elite is launched, which is soon i forgot the exact date.
Third thing nintendo needs to work on stockin shelves to a point where people can find wiis before anyone can even consider a price drop, I got my wii on launch day and havent seen one in stores since

With a mixture of success and capability the Wii doesnt need a price drop at the moment.
You CAN look at the competition to put this into perspective. Although it does not measure up to the power and strength of the PS3 and 360, it cant be said that the Wii isnt worth the 250 dollar price mark. For its not of the height of its power but the span of its ability. If that makes any sense. The Wii already has a fairly good library of games. And then you add the Virtual Console onto that. Its motion control provides a new gameplay aspect. Â
It has its own niche in the market. It tailors to certain aspects of the industry. The PS3 and 360 have inflated prices due to their attempts at making the console more computer like with robust graphics and large memory storage. The Wii is a fraction of the cost and plays games, what it should be doing. And it does it well with a large library of Wii games. And a strong 78 game Virtual Console line-up which grows by the week.
I'm sure it will get a price drop about this time next year, but asking for one 5 months in is a bit of a stretch.

Complete sense and therefore, I agree.
The Wii is priced fine, it would've been nicer at 199,99, but eventually it'll go that low anyways.

There should be a price drop. It's not worth the $250 price tag. I have one and I'm already looking to sell it. Nick11478

Oh my GOD... your logic is flawless!

I'm gonna put mine on eBay right now.

the wii apolagizes for being succesful?
Â
You don't need to defend the price. I bought one at launch. I'm just saying that from a technical standpoint, I think, your getting more for your money from the other two... they literally sold them at a loss. I didn't buy the other two yet because my pocketbook and fiance won't let me:) I don't blame nintendo for doing well. I bought the thing didn't I? Just because the Wii is at a better price point doesnt mean its not $50 more than it should be...IMO. It was originally planned to be cheaper... Nintendo are great at making money. People forget they are very business savy and always profit well.
In terms of my theory on MS, I'm glad I'm not crazy. I hope they do drop the price with the Elite, but honestly, I doubt they will. All that would do is make the Elite look MORE expensive IMO.
to Nick11478, wah???
P.S. I'm not gonna comment on wether the Wii is overpiced after this, because honestly, thats not an answer to the question. Thats a decision for people to make on their own... the original poster made his.
Funny how the number of people wanting to sell their PS3 is hundreds of times more numerous then people wanting to sell their wii.
Why do you think stores offer jack for PS3 tradein while a used wii in a lot of regions goes for more then retail?

Because the Wii is at a better pricepoint than the PS3 and demand is high. It has very little to do with their actual value in terms of components... Think of the Wii as a Toyota Prius and a PS3 as a dodge viper. Its almost impossible to sell a dodge viper and there is a waiting list for a prius. That doesnt mean that if you took them apart and sold the part that the prius is better value. Its just hip and affordable.
When do you think the price drop will occur? Any theories? All game systems drop the price eventually.
If you're too poor to afford a Wii and you claim to be a video gamer, something is f'ing wrong with that...
I'm sorry, but no...
No, actualy nothing is wrong with that, Daisetsu. And I bet five bucks your not even at the age to buy things yourself baised on your comment.vashkey
Exactly what I was thinking. When your a college student with bills, or a husband with kids... $250 plus games and controllers is alot of money for entertainment. I personally opted to get a Wii, but I can't blame anyone for thinking they had better uses of their cash. I will not be able to get a 360 till the price drops... I just have too many other responsibilities. When you get older your money isn't just YOURS anymore.Â
[QUOTE="felbunny"]the wii is too expensive?

50 dollars is gratuituous?
Â
the wii is
a) selling better than the competition
b) cheaper than the competition
c)not in ready supply (large remaining demand)Â
from a marketting, or simply common sense standpoint, theres no reason for a price cutÂ

There is no way there will be a price drop this year, and probably not even next year. When something is sold out already, you don't drop the price. That would be madness.reggie186
What if the 360 drops to $250 from $300? Just curious, do you think the Wii can compete without a price advantage?

FFXIsAstyanax
Agreed.
your point of it being expensive isnt really being debated, but the fact remains that nintendos target market is buying up the system faster than they can make them.felbunny
But, again, I'm curious... WHEN the 360 drops price (from 300 to 250) do you think that forces Nintendo to drop as well? That could easily happen this Christmas season and I'd bet money it happens in 08. MS has every reason to undercut the PS3 as much as possible IMO.
Part of me thinks Nintendo COULD ignore it, but I think they would lose alot of momentum if they did. Especially because Halo 3 and GTA IV will get ALOT of hype... Just curious.
Sure, wait until inflation increases the price anyways or just get a job.
Actually, go and buy a 360 or PS3 instead.Â

its sort of sad but its true...haha
Seeing as how you can't even find one at the current price... definitely not.Imspecial345
Exactly - Nintendo have planned the restricted supply to keep demand constant and to ensure that they can charge launch price for as long as possible...
I doubt that there will be a price drop until Nintendo increase thair supply...
yeah people just aren't buying Wii's anymore...they need a price dropDS_fan_atic
Are you for real?
Nintendo wont drop their prices until they have more Wiis than there are customers. There are thousands of people who havent got a Wii yet and are trying their hardest to get one for the current price.
Nintendo will charge what people are willing to pay, and at the moment people are willing to pay $250/£180 for a Wii.Â

Why is it hard for people to believe that the wii is just extremly selling well? Why do they have to pull this conspiracy nonsense from their butt?
Nintendo just announced 6.5 million Wiis sold worldwide. 2 million in Europe alone which is half of what the gamecube sold during it's lifetime over there.
2.5 million in the states.
Already it's sold 40% of what the gamecube sold in Australia.
In Japan Wii play which is not bundled with the console has sold more then all PS3 games sales combined. One wii title has sold more then all PS3 game titles in Japan. Likely that is true for all regions.
MS and Sony seriously miscalculated who would be willing to dish out the cash for HD consoles at this point and time. They seriously miscalculated how many people would be willing to pay for a console more then 300 dollars at retail.

So you're saying, if the price of the Wii enables Nintendo to make money on it, the price is too high? What a great idea. Let's outlaw profit, that would be good for the economy.
Why would they take out wii sports when that is what sells the console?
This isn't Japan where people would pay 217 dollars without wii sports then buy wii sports for 39.99
Â
just be happy it isnt going up because its in demand and Nintendo can easliy raise the price up a bit if they wanted to. Tjeremiah1988
It would make sense to raise the price, based purely on economics, but Nintendo would lose goodwill and that would outweigh the benefits.
