Nintendo has always and will always be a company built around children and casuals

They are a casual company that's entire mindset is to make easy, pick up and play games

In a presentation a few years back Nintendo showed that over 75% of it's userbase started played Nintendo games between the ages of 3 and 8 years old.

They've only recently showed that they've also expanded their market share of people aged 70+ to almost 5%

The only way that Nintendo has changed is that they're are more focused on getting the casual gamer because they need to build that up more because they have the child market firmly set.

If you're looking for a hardcore experience go elsewhere, Nintendo will always be for children and casuals because that's how they've lasted so long.

lol..no...nintendo is for Everyone...that includes hardcores

No, you're wrong but I thank you for showing where most people go wrong when they think of Nintendo

Everyone can play a Nintendo game, since their entire company model is build on making products for children under the age of 9 or over the age of 60 (Nintnedo's actual stats of the people who use their products the most) their games and hardware are designed a very special way. Easy to play games that don't require a lot of memorization with helpful hints placed around the game world. Simple plot lines with easy gameplay.

Now mind you I said everyone can play Nintendo games, Nintendo games are designed to be entry level games so pretty much if you're entry level or above you can play them.

On the other hand Nintendo software and hardware is not for everyone. It's not designed for the veteran gamer or hardcore player. Sure, an advanced player can play those games and get some enjoyment out of them usually looking back to popular franchises they played as a child while revisiting them with their newest versions but by and large Nintendo doesn't have the software or hardware to keep someone who's well versed with gaming occupied for long. The simple stories and easy gameplay just isn't designed for those people in mind, they never have been and will never be.

Nintendo's only focus is children and casuals with a mindset that every person playing a game needs to start somewhere and they've dedicated their company brand to be the first step. They know they will lose players once they become more of a veteran gamer but there's always going to be new players and that's where Nintendo focuses it's efforts.

Nintendo is not for everyone yet everyone can play their games.

Nintendo has never focused on being hardcore or making games for everyone, they've always been squarely focused on children and casuals and being the entry point to playing games. That's why they've lasted this long.

How do you explain the likes of Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, F Zero, Golden Sun, and Star Fox? If games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns are only for children, why are they so difficult to 100% that only an adult would have a reasonable chance to complete them?

I just hope that the "WiiU" delivers a good gaming experience, packed with all the VC goodies, and has games and support to last it for several years.

I would like a handful of really great games from each of the genre's. Hey, lets face it a few mediocre to decent games to remind us how great the good games are. (not saying I want bad games now)

This isn't that much to ask for and is reasonable for a new console that is supposed to be above par (not sure how much more above though) the current x360,ps3 horsepower.

I would really like to be introduced to a new style of game that I haven't ever seen, but actually really like... Or a style of game that I haven't liked before, but actually played a few games to where I kinda like it.

Who doesn't want it to do good though? I mean hardcore whatever I don't care about all that, I just want to play some good freaking games. I never got a Wii, I was caught up in the 360/ps3 thing. Then I got my pc, and been with it ever since, its awsome, but I heard about the WiiU and something in me got excited. I haven't been this excited about a nintendo product since I was a kid with the N64.

I think it would be a fantastic addition I miss some of the games that I couldn't get anywhere else but Nintendo, like Mario/Zelda/Metriod games etc.

Bottom line is this, I am coming back to Nintendo after a long hiatus myself, and I know I am not the only one. Hardcore? I don't know I just have been gaming since I was little on the NES, and I love videogames. The WiiU has caught my eye. Hearing about the "used games situation" with the competition just reinforces my desire to support the WiiU. (or whatever it will be called)

Wow, this is a needless wall of text.

Reading up for a bit reveals that one of the concerns here is the lack of multiplatform titles on the Wii. I'm not sure I want the Wii U doused in typical multiplatform titles, though. I want exclusives that make the best use of what only it can offer with its controls. Otherwise, it'll suffer the same issues I've been seeing with PC gaming lately, what with developers targeting the consoles first and then porting over the consolized interfaces and narrow FOVs and mouse smoothing/acceleration and so forth, forcing us to tweak it to the state it should have been at out of the box.

If the Wii U has hardware that is comparable to what Sony's and Microsoft's next systems will house, and if the Wii U has an alternative control option that is more traditional, it will probably get great third-party support and likely receive its share of multiplatform titles.

I can't imagine the tablet controller would keep multiplats away. Besides the screen it has fairly standard layout.

I don't know if your like me and have been a nintendo fan since the SNES but if you're older than 12 you understand.

.

--Nintendo used to be the top of the chain when it came to gaming, and they didn't just do kidie games.

They covered hard-core to mid and even games anyone can play, but ever since the Cube they've been going on a different path.

I loved the system but I was definitely jealous of what the X-Box and PS2 offered with shooters, and I felt 9 when I played Wind Waker.

The Wii, as cliche as it sounds, is marketed as being a non-gamers system, something your grandpa and your nephew can both enjoy.

I really miss the N64 era of nintendo when even mario games were for hard-core players. -How did you defeat bowser in SMB64??

> you grabbed him by the tail and threw him into explosives... what happed to that?

.

I really hope they bring that mind-set back with the Wii U. Just give me my games and give granda his Wii U sports and make us both happy.

LMAO JAson, you and your crazy (false) philosophies. Nintendo has been for EVERYONE. Every age group and every gamer type.

I don't think nintendo ever left the core gamers. I just think they expanded to the casual market.

But now with "casual" gamers playing games on their phones, Nintendo may need to rethink their strategy

Agreed. For that matter, if you look at what happened during the 5th and 6th console generations, it looks like the core gamers left Nintendo instead of the other way around, so they had no choice but to expand their market. Pandering to the base clearly wasn't going to keep them alive.

I'm expecting exactly the same thing from the WiiU as what I've seen on the Wii. I don't expect to see a massive rush to endorse more "M" rated games or games that are more "hardcore." I just don't see it happening. Frankly I don't care either. I didn't buy a Wii for Modern Warfare or Halo, I bought it because it featured games that I liked that I couldn't get anywhere else. I assume I will be doing the same for the WiiU, but we'll see what happens.
