Nintendo signed a deal with third party to not release no AAA Nintendo games year one to help their sells

I'd love to see a source for that.

I remember reading a comment similar to this in the IGN Forums awhile back. I don’t think a source was provided there. In my readings I found a quote from Iwata saying that Nintendo held back first party titles for a year because 3rd party publishers were supporting the Wii U. There is not mention of Nintendo signing a deal in this source.

This comes from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who said that “Nintendo tends to release too many titles at the launch of a hardware system”, and because of that, the new console “suffers a drop” in new games after the launch, Iwata told investors.

Nintendo doesn’t want that to happen with the Wii U, and because third party publishers showed support for the Wii U, Nintendo was able to “push back the release of some of the titles that we had originally intended to release as launch titles until next year”, as Iwata puts it.

Some of the first party titles that have been pushed from launch include Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, Game & Wario, and LEGO City Undercover. The Wii U will still launch with key first party games such as Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros U.” ”

http://wiiudaily.com/2012/10/first-party-wii-u-games-delayed-because-of-third-party-support/

We later find out that 3rd party publishers abandoned Nintendo, and it was a tactical mistake, learned from hindsight, for Nintendo to depend on 3rd party publishers.

Five Ways Third Party Publishers Are Ruining Their Chances on the Wii U

Third Party Games Would Sell Better if Third Party Publishers Did a Better Job

1 Offering Bare Bones Wii U Versions

2 Treating the Wii U Like a Freak

3 Giving Up on the Wii U Too Early

4 Making Wii U Owners Feel Ripped Off

5 Not Taking Responsibility

Whether something was signed or not it appears that 3rd party publishers reneged or failed to do what they said they would do, and they did not have to compete with several first party Nintendo titles. It appears 3rd party publishers were part of the cause of the drought of 2013.

Its power matches its software perfectly - the unity between these two things is what matters.

@jcrame10: I think you might want to check the term for shovelware, nobody has come close to PS4 so far. And sorry, i rather have just one of those Nintendo games instead of all the others. Matter of fact, i have Kirby, Mario Maker, and Splatoon when i could be playing Withcer 3, MGS5, Dying Light, and could be playing Fallout, but guess what, i already bought Yoshi Woolly World, Zelda Tri-Force Heroes, Yo-Kai Watch, and Xenoblade Chronicles, so my plate is a little full, been busy playing Splatoon, Kirby, and Mario Maker for so long i forgot about my PC gaming.

Your taste in games is incredibly juvenile.

Also let's face facts here. The only reason the PS3 and 360 have ports of games is because there's more than half a decade of software that makes it easy. It's not like these teams are taking any real time or effort putting these games out. It's a completely different situation than the Wii U.

Why is my taste juvenile? Cause i dont like to play games that were clearly writtin for teens much? Atleast Nintendo games are aimed at all ages, even 20s, 30s, 40,s 70s, and 90 year olds.

Thats cause Wii U was smart and designed the system to upscale the Wii games to 1080p, for free. You wont find me complaining though, i love when companies oversaturate their market. I say release more ports, more remasters, more indies, more mobile, release it all, Nintendo will just watch from afar.

Wii U doesn't upscale the Wii games.

Nintendo already confirmed that multiple times in interviews and at Nintendo.com

Also, techs have confirmed that.

Yeah, we also confirmed that in our debate, but thanks anyways.

You don't understand what resolution or upscaling means.

I'm going to pretend I didn't see you write that......

Ill help you out, resolution is the number of pixels in each dimension that is displayed as an image. Upscaling is using a converter to convert an image to its regular native image.

No, you're still wrong

Wanna try one more time?

The Wii U is underpowered, but its problems have little to do with that. Many underpowered consoles had commercial success, with the PS2 and the Wii being prime examples. Hell, the PS4 is severely underpowered compared to PC tech and still it sells like hot cakes with great 3rd party support.

The "power" question is much dependent on how good is the marketing department and which console becomes the dominant one, because it´s never really about power even if the consumer thinks it is. It all comes down to product perception, and that´s IMO what made the Wii U a failure. So... if you just don´t have an install base that guarantees financial return you can´t expect that other people will be willing to lose money on you. Specially if your hardware is so different from the other competitors that it actually makes development more expensive.

Now, as a person who loves Videogames, I must say I have no problems with my Wii U. The few games that I own for the system are top quality titles, and I´m eagerly awaiting for Xenoblade. And I was very skeptical of the controller but now I must say I absolutely love it. Being able to play a game in my living-room and continuing playing it in bed, or while my wife wants to see something on the TV, it´s the most "next-gen" feature of this gen consoles, IMO. And ergonomically, while not perfect, it´s superior to the PS3 controller.
