It will probably look slightly better. It will be the exact same 480p signal but because of the digital HDMI cable versus analog component it should look slightly sharper. The difference won't be very noticeable but will be there.

Its not impossible, but very unlikely. At its core it seems to be more of a software issue rather than hardware.
If its running on the wii hardware itself then no, but most likely the WiiU's hardware will support teh older intructions on the Wii's CPU so there is a possibility that Nintendo could do this.Sometimes when u run things a higher spec than intended certain artifacts could appear because some of the rendering algorithms weren't meant to work with larger images.
A good example is in TP where links shadow map resolution is actually dependent on the screen resolution. This isn't a bad thing, but it just shows how these things are interconnected and could potentially cause problems.
Thats the only reason I see that Nintendo would hesitate to do this. They could release a patch, but thats not really worth it financially.
