I was told that the wii has a better grafics engine than the xbox(original) Is this not true or are nintendo developers just lazy?I haven't seen many games to surpass many games of xbox,galaxy and brawls and maybe corruption look great,but that seems to be the only graficly "impressive" games on wii. what are your thoughts on the topic?
Gameplay I prefer on wii over xbox.And no I don't think that grafics make the game,gameplay comes first for sure,I was just wondering,not like I'm wii bashing or anything.I'm pro wii. :)
I've given up expecting high quality Wii graphics like what I see on a different console I own but won't mention what that is because then I'll get modded.
That's not to say the Wii's graphics are bad in comparison, it's just...well...it's better than the Gamecube...but not "Revolutionary". That's why they changed the name of the Revolution to the Wii in my opinion. Because there's nothing revolutionary about the Wii where graphics are concerned.
Am I happy with the Wii's graphics? Sure. But I'm also glad it's not the only console I own.

They didn't change anything, that wasn't the name, it was the code name for the console. If you think about it, it's a really bad name. And the "Revolution" had nothing to do with graphics but with how we play games. They had in mind that the console would revolutionize gaming as we know it, similar to what they did with the NES. developers are lazy, it's easily possible to outdo the xbox on it, the xbox could have been outdone by the GC, and was never fully realised the xbox had a shoddy architechture set up for computers to be specialised on mential tasks and operating systems, the GC was a lot more specialised, so is the Wii, but developers are taught on PC's so they find it diffecult. Only really japanese developers have much skill with non-PC architechture, and for some odd reason so does Factor-5, but they've been loyal nitendees up til half way through GC japan has more experiance on consoles btw, they were a lot more on board with them earlier.
btw chefstubbles, there is nothing revolutionary about graphics period, at very most you could call graphical upgrades as evolutionary, but never revolutionary. Even Stereo vision would be evolutionary, revolution requires a momentum shift, and there isn't anywhere graphical upgrades could shift to.

Graphics Engine =/= Graphics Processing Unit, just to let you know.
Anyways, the Wii isn't drastically more powerful than the XBox so in comparison to the other current-gen systems, it's pathetic from a technical perspective. In order to make up for that difference, there's a much heavier emphasis placed on creating an attractive art style and fluid animation while keeping the game running at 60 FPS (well, at least for Nintendo and their in-house development studios in addition to their 2nd party developers). 3rd party developers, for the most part, are unfamiliar with programming for Wii games since it has a similar architecture to the Gamecube, which most of them rarely worked with. That, and most of them view the Wii more as an oppurtunity for a quick buck than anything else.
The Wii has like twice the graphics capabilities the Xbox has. It is just that the developers don't trust in the Wii's potential or are just lazy and they make ports.
the wii's graphics may not be as good as x-box 360, or maybe even x-box. but i always thought games on those consoles were a bit too short, all that matters is that the grapghics have improved since the gamecube, and thats all that nintendo needed to aim for ...

The PS3 has way more graphical power than the Wii. The Wii's not bad in terms of it's graphics, but it still can't play in HD like the PS3 or 360

True, but because the PS3 and X-box 360 are so powerful in terms of graphics, there is a smaller range of t.v.'s that can be played on with them...
Its more powerful than the Xbox, but developers are lazy. Super Mario Galaxy looks way better thn any past-gen game. And you really shouldn't be comparing systems on this board. And graphics is spelt with a 'ph'
I enjoy the graphics of the wii even though the ps3/xbox360 are far superior graphical wise. Everyone keeps saying that gameplay is what matters which is true, but it would be even better to get best possible gameplay with best possible graphical capabilities. I still love all three consoles all unique in their own way.

wii > xbox GC was about = xbox clock speeds =/= graphics capability and good developers can get good graphics on bad hardware, bad developers can get good graphics on good hardware lazy developers are getting bad graphics on alright hardware

you're right, its all due to lazyness. Developers have come to the understanding that they can whip out a quick & dirty PS2 port and it will sell. The unfortunate thing is, they do sell in their millions.
the wii sould have way better graphics because its in the same generation as the ps3 and the xbox360, and they have insane graphics, i think they focused more on the gameplay and remotes, the wii is still good for arcade games though

You're telling me you were able to count individual polygons, tell how high the resolution was of the textures, figured out what lighting and rendering techniques were used, and were able to tell how many frames per second each game was running at, among other things?

People always decide on if they should buy their games or not just because of the graphics. Like Twilight Princess, for example, is an awesome game but the graphics arent that THAT great. I think people should wake up and see who Nintendo is. A highly intelligent group who spend more time on gameplay then graphics.

You can't really blame that on Microsoft and Sony though. Well, maybe partially Sony since they make TV's.. but still as time goes by there will be greater amount of TV's that will be able to display the other consoles' full potential

Exactly,you are mentioning games that are first of all ps2 PORTS!!! except red steel. You have to look at games like galaxy,which hazbazz mentioned before and games like metroid prime 3 and brawl,which the ps2 can't even dream of acomplishing.

we never at any point said that graphics are more important then gameplay,in fact we mentioned multple times that we beleive that gameplay is over graphics.

This is precisely the kind of conversation i don't understand... one day, years from now, we will all look back and say "oh, ya, that system WAS the best at that" so what's the point of arguing about it now? Why is there so many people who point out/care about the wii's graphic power? the thing is a freakin juggernaut with ONE weakness, and it's all i hear about.
Graphics are the achilles heel of the wii. everyone knows it, and yet here is a group of people who continue to compare it with LAST gen systems? aaaaaahhhhhh.....

I'm pretty sure the Wii is more powerful than all last gen systems, but only slightly more powerful than the Xbox. Developers are lazy when it comes to the Wii for the most part, at least graphically.
While the Wii's graphics don't impress that much the gameplay really makes up for this flaw. But I look at gameplay before graphics. I would rather have a Wii over a X-Box any day.
