They will eventually discontinue the Wii in favour of the next console, though. And the 3DS will likely have every feature the DS currently has, so Nintendo won't be losing any of their audience - they'll just be selling them new, more expensive hardware. Let me give you another example. Amazon would never turn the Kindle into a handheld gaming system and start promoting it primarily as a gaming device? But why not? It would still do what it always did.......Serving as an e-book reader. So why not change it to a game system and promote it as such? BECAUSE PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING. And the avid book readers would perceive that Amazon had sold out and started making games instead of readers. The 3DS will be marketed as this super-cool toy with high-end futuristic graphics. It will not be perceived as something that welcomes the older gamers. Worse yet, I suspect the 3DS is going to be a colossal failure.Oh dear you really think Nintendo is going to market it as "super high realistic graphics"? Have you been paying attention?
Its "roughly as powerful" as the GameCube. If they marketed it as that they'd give it 512MB RAM, and 1Ghz Snapdragon or Intel Atom for that matter!
Kindle is a terrible example. And of course the 3DS is going to be a huge success. Colossal Failure? Not likely.
Infact, the rumors of an Animal Crossing at launch already indicate they're readying to market to casuals with the 3DS, and i bet there is more brain age, nintendogs, etc software then core software, coz thats the right way to build an initial consumer base for a platform
Really? You really think after all this nintendo is gonna market it as high end device? Wow. If its a GameCube then its really not that distiguishable from a PSP in graphics to most consumers (i'm not saying one or the other makes better visuals but i'm saying the general non-core consumer won't notice the difference) therefore it can't be marketed as HIGH END.
