Will E3 09 for Nintendo be the same as the recent E3 08?

Well, im sure a lot of you know that many hardcore gamers were dissapointed by Nintendo's E3 Media Breifing recently due to the fact that no "hardcore" games such as a new Super Mario or Zelda game were discussed. Personally im glad that they unveiled Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii. I was thinking, not too long ago, about what E3 09 would be like for Nintendo, (im sure they will hold an E3 09 despite all the criticisms E3 has received).

So here is my question.

Do not look to e3 for announcements about stuff worth caring about.

E3 09 will be EXACTLY the same as 08. All the same games will be announced despite them already being released.

What do you mean by "show"? I think they will have some hardcore games on the showfloor and will mention them, although the conference will be mostly casual.

If you're wondering, yes, there will be hardcore games released next year.

I think they'll be using E3 as they have been for the last two years, a conference for the mainstream media. Nintendo will probably hold Spaceworld or something similar to showcase their upcoming hardcore titles.

It all depends on what Nintendo has in the pipelines. If it takes 2-3 years to develop AAA titles, then we'll be due for another round of core games from Nintendo late 2009 or early 2010.

Nintendo basically directly stated that they aren't going to be using the E3 for the benefit of the hardcore gamers anymore. As far as I can tell, they believe they did exactly what they set out to do at E3. So yes, I'd say that E3 '09 will probably be the same as '08.

I'm going to say no. E3 09 will be open to the general public again, meaning there won't be as much focus on the press as there will be on gamers. Therefore, Nintendo will show hardcore games. Also, both Reggie and Iwata acknowledged how terrible this E3 was, so they're going to learn from their mistakes.

Exactly, they're using E3 to show off new ideas and ways to play, instead of showing something that everyone already knows how to play. For example, if they announce a new Mario platformer, we pretty much know what we're in for and don't need an explaination (which would kill the time they have at E3), but if they had announced Wii Music or Wii MotionPlus outside of E3, it would be hard to explain to the public what it's all about. That's why I think next year's E3 will be very similar to this year's, only having a handful of hardcore titles and the rest showing how to play new types of games.

E3 was never open to the public.

You know what I mean. It'll revert back to being open to anyone who is remotely involved with the industry and will no longer be an invite-only event.

I have to agree with you goblaa. Last year's E3 was awful with the only real surprise being Wii Fit. But atleast they showed off some games (*good games) at that E3 like Metroid and possibly SMG, I can't really remember I spent most year trying to forget the event entirely. This year they didn't give us anything! Well... the new wiisports looks like a bit of fun, the motion plus is welcomed, and Animal Crossing looks... ok. But I still can't get over how they showcased Call of Duty for the Wii, if they were going to show off anything Third Party effort on the Wii it should've been De- Blob, Madworld, Tales of Symphonia, Dead Rising: CTYD, We Cheer... anything but COD~!

I hope not. There were way too many people at the old E3. The "real" media like Gamespot, IGN, etc could barely get time to play games. I remember back in 2005 or 2006, they had to wait hours just to play Twilight Princess for a few minutes.

The new E3 format is so much better, it's just that companies are taking it less seriously now that it's smaller.

i mean, i just want them to announce a hardcore title like a new Zelda game or something so i can anticipate it and look forward to playing it. At the the previous E3 07 i remember being happy because they mentioned Mario Kart Wii, showed new clips and news of SMG, as well as Super Smash Brawl. This year, E3 08, only Animal Crossing: City Folk, not that its bad, im still guna buy it.

Yeah, it will be the same imo. E3 is no longer what it was before (booth babes, loud music, huge announcements). After the big change, E3 07 and 08 were pretty light on big announcements. Why should 09 be any different?

I think since Nintendo knows hardcore gamers felt left out this E3 they will announce 1 harcore game next E3 and then the rest casual.

It's hard to say at this point. E3 for Nintendo now seems to be about the casual titles, or at least this year because the core titles aren't far enough to show. I think Nintendo will have more to show next year regarding their 1st party core game efforts but I don't know if they'll show them at E3.

It all depends on how sales turn out compared to the competitors. If we see a repeat of Wii and DS sales dominating then more then likely yes, they will continue to build on the casual gamer experience.

imo they are giving space to third party games to be in the spotlight the upcoming period, then, when the traditional nintendo games are ready to be shown we will get our Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Pikmin and all that, and ofc new stuff, both first and third party, with this motion plus.... this is my guess, but for E3 09 idk, ... don't forget the Wii is not even 2 years old

It's a garuntee we'll see a Zelda game next year, and Mario is 75%. So I think it can only be better. If they don't bring back wrist lady, it will already be better.

I think they'll show some of the core titles next year but I'm not sure which venue they'll show them at. E3 may be just for the casual from now on. I guess we won't know until '09 or '10 when Nintendo's core games are ready. At the same time I won't die if the games don't come out next year or in '10 cuz I still have a life to live. I also have some promising 3rd party titles which look good.

I like to think they didn't show Mario or Zelda this year's E3 because they were to early in production not because E3 is not suitable for Hardcore games. I hope Next Year we will have our share of Hardcore games.:)

Oh wait, I'm thought this thread was referring to new core games being revealed at the press conference. Since it's referring to new titles shown at E3 in general I would say yes to that. Unless Nintendo doesn't go to E3 09 that's the only reason why they wouldn't show any new titles IMO.

I would say yes, just to be optimistic.
