I'm a young little muffin. I'll say this; I'm old enough to see PG-13 movies, but not quite old enough to drive yet ^_^

I own a Wii, love it, love Twilight Princess and Mario, but I always see RE4 being discussed everywhere. I've never played the game before, so I'm pondering on whether or not to buy this game (my age or maturity isn't really a factor, I can order it online or my parents will pick it up for me), because I've never really been a fan of the genre. I don't really care for horror games, I hardly made it past Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 (had to play in the light, in the kitchen, with people around to finish lol), but is Resident Evil really good enough to warrant a purchase?

WillI be too scared to play this game or should I buy it ASAP?

There are a couple of parts with a really creepy atmosphere and a few rare parts where something bursts out at you, but it's by far the least scary of all the RE games. I don't particularly like the horror genre but I love RE4. It's much more action than horror

That's great, because I actually like those games. If it's not constantly scary, I'll probably be okay. Playing about an hour through FEAR with a friend was absolute hell for me, so if it's a leg down from that I"ll be fine. Thank you!

It really is a great game. It is completly different from the other games in the resident evil series which i like RE4 the best. It is action packed and not really scary. If you can handle heads getting blown off and thing like that then you should really get this game. if not i wouldnt recomend it. None the less the Wii version in my opinion i the best compared to the others becaue the Wii controlls make it really unqiue, and different. I would recomend it to most people i talk to.

I'm the type of person who can laugh off Scary Movies like nothing, but when it comes to games the Horror genre is a major turnoff for me. I suppose its the player interaction and the scenario being under your control.

While RE4 is a Resident Evil, its not particularly scary. I didn't have a problem with it until a situation in a laboratory. But thats not until the final chapter of the game. So while it does have an unsettling atmosphere, the focus on tight control and solid action allows RE4 to be less scary and a hell of a lot more fun.

Edit: Please tell me you made it past Ravenholm in HL2! Its far too awesome of a game to give up on just for that part. Ugh, I've got a nasty Ravenholm story, I had killed all of the Poisonous Headcrabs off of one of those Zombie Headcrab throwers and had been slowly platforming around the level. I was completely sure they were all dead so when I fell into a grassy section in the shadows, I didn't much think about it, so I'm walking around calmly when a leftover Poison one shows up and attacks my face, I shoot wildly and damn near fall out of my chair. Awesome times.

If you like awesome games that involve lots of action and shooting things, then yes you will love it. Its awesome, and I didnt find it the least bit scary, I have played scarier versions of resident evil

and on a side note, the scariest game I personally have ever played was the first Silent hill, granted I was much much younger when that came out so many years ago haha.

RE4 Wii edition isnt really scary. There are some parts where zombies will pop out and make you jump or when you will be a little cautious turning a corner, but its not constantly like that. There are even parts where what happens is so cool or funny, like when i had a giant flaming fireball land RIGHT on an enemy. I starting laughing so hard. But anyway you will love it, it is definitely a fun game, and it will last you a while (took me 24 hours to beat JUST the main single player story mode, not to mention all of the bonus stuff) Besides, what do you have to lose, its only $30.

I first played it when I was 14 and had no problem with scares, but then again I was past my scare stage where movies/books/games scared me but even my brother who is afraid of the dark was fine with RE4 and the game is AWSOME

Its nothing like the original Resident evil in which you're basically in a hopeless situation and trapped in a zombie infested mansion, but more or less an action adventure survival. There are a LOT of gory scenes with blood, guts, and exploding heads, but overall nothing terrifying.

I think you will, my sister bought me the game yesterday. I love it, its my first time playing RE since playing the first one on playstation when i was about 6 (i admit it i was scared like hell lol). Now i just turned 16, and im glad my sister got it for me, best game on wii for me, infront of zelda because I think that game is way too easy.

RE4 is more of horror-light, so if you want to get into the horror genre, i recommend getting the game. Still, you probably will not like it, despite what the other forumites say. Get a game you will enjoy.

If you had a lot of trouble getting through Ravenholm in HL2 then I wouldn't reccomend RE4. It is a great game but may not be for your taste. You should rent it if it still interests you.

Like everyone else said...it's the least scary out of all the RE games. I had a hard time playing the first RE at all...a little to scary for my tastes (although horror movies are no problem for me, horror games can get to me), but RE4 relies a lot more on action and puzzle solving. So I would say if you like Zelda games, then in a very very loose way, RE4 could be considered somewhat similar...although in a creepier and more violent way.

RE4 is more action than horror, just remember that. Some parts of the game may be scary as hell(regenerators) but after you killem ur like IN YOUR FACE B*TCH!! It's really really fun, one of my favorite games. Especially those clutch moments when you just finish reloading in time to blow a shot gun to someone/something's face.

So yeah.... I reccomend it to you. I'm almost certain you'll enjoy it.

I'm probably a bad perspective on this as I tend to just make fun of horror movies and have never owned a horror game besides RE4, but I don't think there's a significant scare factor. There are a select few situations can put you on edge, and the game generally has a bit of a creepy feel, but overall the sense from the game isn't fright. The villagers aren't scary, and there aren't cheap pop-up scares either. The narrative isn't really a horror story either, if anything it's comic book super-villain-y.

Okay.  I played this game my first semester of college.  To tell you the truth, I wouldn't play it unless someone was at the dorm with me.  I can deal with scary movies just fine, but survival horror games scare me to death.  I get very jumpy and yell at everything.  I noticed most of the people who have posted are a lot braver than I am, but I guess I get a little too connected to the gameplay, though it did cause me to be very cautious in my gameplay and I never got killed by being surrounded after running out of ammo (my roommate did that more times than I can count).
That said, I loved the game and recommend it to all of my friends.  If you do find it scary, I would suggest finding a friend to watch you play.

You probably never played it have you..... it was never bad. The only thing thats scary is when a chainsaw comes from behind and you didn't see it coming, which is rare, and well its just not scary. I however did get nervous when i was fighting those stupid needle bodied dudes, and i couldn't feakin aim at the stupid hotspot to kill it and it just kept getting closer and i had no life left, but it was more addrenaline boosting than, scary.

Great game that was never dull.

Depends how old. if they're 13/14 or whatever, i see no problem with this game. Theres nothing in it they shouldn't have already been desensitised to. They may not be coordinated enough to play the game well, but they still might enjoy it.
