So, do you? Do you think this game will be the one to make the franchise BIG here in the West?

There's always hope but I don't see why this version would do any better than the PSP or PS2 games so far?

Yes easily because it will be the first thing like Phantasy Star Online that the Wii has and it looks great so yeah. It has all the requirements, Great Looking Game, Addictive looking gameplay, customizable characters, online co-op play and a perfect score from a trustworthy site (For those who give a crap about scores - I don't). Yep, it could, then it's on a highly reputable console so yeah, it will.

All the other Monster hunter games have gotten high scores from Famitsu before. That didn't help any of them to sell better or score better in US or EU.

A high score in Famitsu should not be taken as a guide of what the reviewers in US or EU gives a game.

I don't think many hardcore games on the Wii have much of a chance of becoming "big".

I don't think it will ever rise to mainstream popularity here, but I certainly think Tri will do better in NA than it's predecessors. If it gets good reviews over here, coupled with the legs high rated Wii games usually have, should do well.

This game is going to do okay here but I think it would take this doing great then 4 coming out and being even better to make this big outside of Japan.

It will do good if it is advertised correctly. It has everything needed to be great but if not properly advertised, it still won't do well.

I think this is going to make the series big in the West for a couple of reasons:

  • It's on Wii and Wii has a lot of units sold
  • They changed the control system, made it a bit more easy
  • It's finally a good ( check perfect score Famitsu) "hardcore" title that appeals to many people

I just hope they don't make it that you have to pay to play online here in the West, that would suck

I don't think it was big, until now, since the sales in Japan were so crazy.

That's what I was thinking too. It's probably a really good game, but if the devs don't get the word out, since it isn't so big here in NA, it probably won't do as well as it could have.

Hopefully! The game looks beautiful. Hopefully the game is as successful when it is released here as it is in Japan.

If by BIG you mean reach a Japan-like popularity then the answer is no. I am still not sure about the quality of the title since I really don't trust that Famitsu score seeing how the franchise is huge in Japan, but I think it will do more for the franchise than the PSP and PS2 games did.

Capcom pulled a gigantic promo for MH: Freedom Unite on PSP in EU and US this year yet that didn't help it. Monster Hunster Freedom Unite is the western name for Monster hunter Portable 2nd G which got 36/40 (9/9/9/9) on Famitsu. It has also sold 3.5 million copies in Japan.

MH:FU or in Japan MHP: 2ndG had both great scores and sold amazing in Japan. It also had a gigantic promo earlier this year in US and EU which didn't help it.

Great scores and sales in Japan mixed with great promo in US is the reasons people are arguing that MH3 will do great in the US. The thing is MH:FU also had this yet it didn't help.

All I'm saying is that people shouldn't expect huge sales or great scores in US and EU just because that happend in Japan. I will however buy it if it's released in EU no matter the score, promo or sales it gets.

So true. They'll probably say something like "full of waggle", "steep learning curve" then say "too easy to play" and "unresponsive controls" just so they could find something negative to say about it.

I sure hope so. It's an awesome series, and with a proper marketing campaign, even housewives can become part time monster hunters!!!11!.

Hehe, yah. I still don't get why the heck they docked the score 'cause of no Mii Support. I don't think they'll be that harsh to Monster Hunter, though. I just hope they don't dock any points for no lock-on.

if capcom makes some decent advertisement, and the good scores show up over here, then definitely. what i'm afraid of is that the so-called "hardcore" games tend to sell not much more than a million copies when they're released for the wii...

wasnt it the one that manage to outsell the new dragon quest? and anything that outsells dragon quest in japan cant be called anything other than "huge"
