Well according to this site, yes they will run in 480p and look a bit better:
While we were playing around with the cable we tried loading up a older
Gamecube game that supports 480p output in the Wii to see if the Wii
would in fact scale the game up to 480p. Watch the video above to see
our trial in action. For those of you that can't or don't want to watch
the video, the Wii did in fact scale the game up to 480p instead of
480i. When the game was first loaded it asked if we wanted to run it in
480p mode we said yes and the results were positive. There was
certainly a difference although not quite as dramatic difference as
LoZ: TP has when changing between component and composite but an
improvement none-the-less.

[QUOTE="Revelade"]I mean if I buy component cables for my Wii and play a component
compatible cube game, will the cube game take advantage of it? This
could be the end of the nightmare it was to hunt for component cables
for the cube.

Oh I did misread it :. Didn't realize he was talking about component cables :P.

The answer is yes. If you have a component cable for the Wii, and you set the Wii to progressive scan mode, any GC game that supports progressive scan mode will be able to run in 480p on the Wii. It is a fact. For example, when I start Mario Kart Double Dash on my Wii, is says "would you like to display in progressive scan mode" just like the GC did once I got a GC component cable. You hit yes, and the Wii plays a GC game in progressive scan mode.

Have to have a EDTV or HDTV as well. Not all tvs that take in componet cables are capable of 480p. Gamecube games seem to load faster but then again they always loaded very fast. Please Log In to post.
