Because the 3D only works on the top will it discourage devs to make touch screen controlled games(metroid Zelda Starfox).

Do you think that having regular controls would make these games better or worse.

Yeah I think it will discourage touch screen since 3D is only on that widescreen at the top. I can imagine seeing creativity thrown aside for visual appeal and the touch screen used as a menu or mini-map.

Imagine The World Ends With You or Okamiden on the 3DS

I was wishing that the 3DS had both screens being able to be turned into one giant screen and both becoming touch sensitive and having 3D, but Nintendo said touch and 3D don't mix.

Yea you can see that from some of the games announced for it as awesome as they may be.

Nintendo said touch and 3D don't mix.

That's not entirely true. Sharp, who are manufacturing Nintendo's displays have developed 3D touch screens, big enough for use with the 3DS, but they're definitely on the cutting-edge side of things, so it'd probably make the 3DS too expensive.

I think it may be a good and bad thing. It will end the whole touch screen Zelda thing. I liked ST and PH, but the games just are better with buttons.

most DS games don't use the touch screen as the main screen. and they can still do that "two screens acting as one" thing. i've seen a guy on gamespot that the profile header and the banner were two parts of the same image, and it looked great.

Maybe. In games like Cooking Mama, the touch screen is crucial. I don't think watching Mama cheering for you and presenting what you cooked in the top 3D screen is the main point on the game XD. That's why I'm curious how the next game in the Layton series is going to handle it. 3D puzzles are going to give me nightmares. On the other hand, probably in some RPG like Pokemon or the FF/Tales series, when you use the touch screen only to input the commands (ok, in Pokemon there are the mini-games but it's not a big part of the game) it won't be a big deal. I play those without using the touch screen at all because I tend to loose the stylus.

Most games really didn't use the touch screen that much anyway, or had an option for touch or button controls

Huh, I never understood the dislike for the DS Zelda controls. I absolutely loved them! :D

Anyway, I don't remember playing too many games that had the main visuals on the touchscreen; most of the ones that i'ved played had most of the action on the top screen. Besides, I think the touchscreen works great for menu systems, inventories, maps, puzzles, etc. and I don't really mind if all the action is focused on the top screen.

How do you think a 3DS Zelda would be.

A full 3D game like oot or a 2.5d overhead view like the other portable systems.

I cant see them letting go of the overhead view but I also cant see them keeping the touch screen controls.

Don't know why people act as if every game on the DS uses innovative touch screen controls, because that is not the case at all. I top screen has been the main screen and with the 3DS will continue to be the main screen. I don't see much changing in regards to the bottom screen, for games that it fits, it will use it, for those that used the top screen anyway, that will continue. There will be a few less games that need touch controls not because of the 3D, but because of the analog stick.

I'd be more worried if the 3D screen was a touch screen. With your depth perception being distorted by the 3D visuals, you'd have no idea where the actual screen was, and you'd likely smash the 3DS trying to touch something deep in the background.

3D and touch wouldnt work well as you couldnt see the 3d with your hand in the way, and it wouldnt look right with your stylus in the screens 3D. Plus devs can do what they want if they really need to use the touch screen on the bottom for your play screen. Personally I hardly care at all, as I hate controling zelda and animal crossing via touch screen.

I wouldn't care if they kept the touch screen or if they took it.

I like the touch screen, I think it adds a lot to the controls of the system. You can drag stuff around on the bottom screen or write and draw things, two features that wouldn't be quite as possible otherwise.

I don't really see the touch screen clashing with the 3D too much. How many of you remember the day you got Super Mario 64 DS? So the game isn't in '3D', but it features 3D graphics on a handheld. And that game uses the stylus a good bit for controlling your character. I imagine playing any game on the 3DS wouldn't be much different, you're moving around and stuff on the bottom screen and looking at the top screen.
