I was thinking about getting a ds for christmas, but before I actually got one I was wondering if there's a new version of it coming out. I know that nintendo likes to release different versions of the same system (GBA, GBA SP, DS, DS Lite) and it would really suck to buy one and then have a better version come out a couple of months later. So if anyone does know of anything, please let me know. Thanks.

there is a new one in the works (or some say done) but because of the great sales of the DS lite it is not coming out anytime soon. Also it is thought to not have a GBA slot to make it smaller... So i doubt that it is coming out soon, or that it will work... Can anybody say GameBoy Micro?

But the GB micro is actually awesome :D

I also heard there was a new one coming out, but I wouldn't wait for that one. If rumors are true it won't have a GBA cartridge slot, and personally I think that would not be good. I still have GBA games I use, not to mention a rumble pack and a couple other carts that plug in to that slot. I also don't want smaller, it is just right the way it is, at least IMHO.

Yup, but it's only a rumor i hear. Don't worry about it, get the DS for christmas. You won't have to worry about a new DS for a while.

There wont be a new one for awhile. Theres to many games coming out for it and to many planned. and its still selling good. And if they did there would be lots of people ticked off for having to buy a new one

Do keep in mind the Gameboy Micro came out during the DS's life cycle. It would be safe to assume the new rendering will come out at the tail end of the DS's life. Nintendo usually releases their new handheld in the last year of their systems shelf life. So if the Wii has five years of life on it you have probably have three years of the DS Lite as the prime handheld in front of you. Granted this is all speculation and if for any reason the DS Lite sales dropped (which no one sees happening) then you might see the new model.

With DS sales already rediculously rapid, they wouldn't be smart to release a new version. They'll probably give more info about a/the rumoured revamped DS when sales begin to slow down, which will be like what.... 2020

I dont really see how Nintendo would be able to significantly upgrade the lite anyway, but we may start to hear rumorsof a next generation ds a couple years from now. (Ninty will milk the ds sales for now and not make a new one until it's necessary)

i wouldn't be good to make another DS when the DS lite is selling alot they should just stick with making more games for it

If nintendo did make a new DS without the GBA slot I think it wouldn't sell. Being able to play older games is part of the reason the ds is selling so well.

Theres rumors about it having usb support and media function. If that's true, I'd definitely buy it.

just buy the old version. if they make the ds any smaller no1 will be able to play it with their big hands, like me. and its cheaper and its just the same console over and over. the dont perform any differently.
