im sorry, i should have specified when i said mario is showing his age. while ctritic-wise, mario is as young and fresh as ever, when it comes down to the games, they are just starting to feel uninspired. the freshest thing mario is doing right now is teaming up with luigi in RPG's, his platformers are starting to feel repetetive. I just think that insight from an outside company could help boost the whole mario thing, like SEGA did with F-zero and Capcom did with zelda, and Square did with mario previously by putting him in an RPG (which APPARENTLY, nintendo really liked, as now mario is in HOW many RPGs? that all play similarly to the original SMRPG) Im not trying to insult or anything, im just saying that collaborations have always turned out pretty positive for us, and we should ask for them more. i could use another super-hard-puzzle-filled Legend of zelda that will make me tear my hair out. isnt that what we all really want? or another F-zero that allows for us to create our own racing machines and play through a fun and pretty unique story? garrett_duffman
I'm more in tune to your point now. Still, if it's not broken, why fix it? If Mario's still getting high marks, why risk losing momentum with the series by letting someone else handle the game? As far as the games feeling uninspired, that's a matter of opinion, really. Personally, I enjoyed the gravity aspect of Super Mario Galaxy and the Wii-specific challenges that the game created, and I think what Super Paper Mario brings to the table, with its 2D/3D morphing gamplay, is something more developers should look into. At the end of the day, while F-Zero GX was a great racing game with some cool additions, it was still a racer in the end. The same goes for Zelda, as well. It's not like the games are likely to undergo drastic changes in the hands of a different developer, and if they do, it's very possible we could get an incident where fans are upset, much like what happened with StarFox. And poor DK still doesn't know what he wants to do these days... :P
I'm not saying that a different developer couldn't hurt any of these games, including Mario, but I've come to like the offerings Nintendo has given as well. Once again, I'm not in total disagreement with your point, as I think seeing more collabs could create promising results. Still, at the end of the day, I want a polished product, and Nintendo has as good of a rep for that as anyone. :P
