Most successful version they ever had and the rest of the series will be that way

All the others were let downs in one area or another, the formula has finally been perfected

I really don't like having to vote but, I liked the 1st one more than the spm, haven't played the 2nd. SPM is the one of the best titles on the Wii but it looks to be that game where it has that profound negativity of "It wasn't as good as the other two." Not really how I'd want that title to be remembered by.

But there is till a major problem in Super Paper Mario, there is WAY TO MUCH TEXT.

I almost spent more time reading than I did playing the actual game.

Other than this, there isn't much wrong with any of the paper mario games, it really all depends on the player. That is, does one prefer the turn-based or real-time combat.

I really enjoyed it a lot. Though it did have some problems that I didn't care for, but overall, it wasn't bad. I did prefer the other 2 though, and kind of hope that this was just a single game experiment (or at the very least, split the series up into a "Paper Mario" and "Super Paper Mario" series), so that we can see what they do with a regular Paper Mario game, for the Wii.

That's why I like the story. It actually explains it in full detail instead of just going from one place to another without knowing your goal. Kinda like how MGS4 is full of hour long cutscenes. It makes for a better story.

Meh describes how I felt perfectly. I've never played any of the other Paper Mario games so I didn't really have much to base the game on, but picked it up anyway. It held my attention I guess. The story was kind of bland and predictable which was sad since it seemed to be so driven by it. I liked the gameplay though. It was fun enough.

It's the only Super Paper Mario game I've played... I had fun and liked how it was more reminiscent of classic Super Mario than Super Mario Galaxy was, but all the "dialog" was so freaking annoying that it detracted from the game a lot. I couldn't button-mash past it fast enough to keep from going insane.

this. it really felt like I was too old for the game to much dialog and the humor was very young (i'm almost 40). clicking through all that stuff made the game fell 30% longer. i didn't like it by the end. a no text option would have been nice. it killed the replay for me. no way i would replay through that wall of text.

Super Paper Mario was awsome. How many hybrid genres do we see like this? An RPG mixed with a platformer and another amazing storyline in the Paper Mario fashion.

It was a great game, one I would love to see continued on the DS, but I also want to see the traditional Paper Mario come back. Paper Mario in general is such a good series. Even people who do not normally like RPGs can appreciate this.

Great game that is inferior to Paper Mario and Paper Mario 2.

I think the series will eventually return to its roots.

Nice combination of RPG and Platformer properties and very nice 2D-3D flipping mechanic makes SPM a very unique game for the Wii. A must for RPG and Platformer fans, but not the best in the Paper Mario series.

Infact I consider SPM a spin-off of the main Paper Mario series. Paper Mario 3 will go back to old turn-based fighting mechanic, I can feel it.:)

Super Paper Mario felt really fresh. Paper Mario 64 is probably my favorite of the series, but Super Paper Mario is still a fantastic game. I loved the story, but I agree, way too much text. And I didn't think the sidekicks were nearly as interesting as the last games, in fact the character design in general was a bit lame. But the story was great, the visuals are beautiful, the 3-D flipping was a sweet concept, and it was a hillarious game in general.

Too much text for so little story. Another reason why it was too much is that the text diluted the truly funny parts. There was some comedic brilliance in there, but it was completely drowned. Less text would have let it stand out more. Also, too little emphasis on RPG stuff. I actually had to think about it after beating the game whether it was an RPG when someone asked because I couldn't off-hand remember any RPG elements, it was so downplayed.

the game was okay. i mean i liked the story a lot. i dont mind reading. it does make you know what is going on in the game which is great. it is just that i thought the first 2 paper mario games were absolutely fantastic and when i heard about super paper mario, i was so excited but when i got the game, i noticed the partners were not the usual goomba and koopa partners that you team up with. the count bleck and tippi story was absolutely one of the best stories ever in a video game. i did miss kammy koopa though. she and bowser were funny together. dimentio is an absolutely fantastic addition to the game. he makes areally good villain and i actually hope he returns in a future paper mario game. so i i thought the story was great but the game was not nearly as good as the first two. i hope the next paper mario is more like the first 2 and you get goomba and koopa partners again. i also hope kammy koopa returns.

It wasn;t quite as good as the previous two Paper mario titles, but it was still a very good game, nonetheless.

Wow, I actually do agree with you Jaysonguy lol. I think that Super Paper Mario had the best gameplay of the series, and while they could still improve it a lot and make the game bigger, I think it was certainly a step in the right direction.

Voice acting would be cool. I know blasphemy talking in a Mario game. All that good script could be put to more use.

Loved this game more so then the others in the previous ones. Id give it a 9.5 but I kind of miss the RPG elements. I also was happy that it didnt involve Mario saving Peach.

I bought it a few weeks after release and have yet to finish it. I thought it was funny and like the art style. That said, I don't like as a whole. The flipping mechanic is torture for completionists like me. I'm constantly flipping the world to find hiiden goodies and it's a horrible idea. Mario is the only one that can do it, so I rarely find use for Bowser, Peach and Luigi. Some parts were pretty boring, like working for cash in the place you get locked in with all the slaves who are doing the same thing. Inventive twistmaybe, but I'll be damned if I actually have to WORK IN MY GAMES!:x

It just didn't work for me. I guess I will try and beat it to write my review of why it ultimately sucked.

I assume you are speaking for yourself, right? no making a statement as a fact... bc for me and many others, they took a great RPG mix, which was a great follow to Mario RPG and transformed it into a easy, straight forward platform, with some small element of RPG, that bc the game was so easy do did not even needed to use. I played the game and sold it... and is RARE for me to get rid of games.... anyway... it was good, but easy and it should have stayed being what it was....

Actually you don't have to do much work there...You just save up a little bit of money in the one room and you can access another room that has a rediculous amount of money for you to complete that part of the game in one fell swoop. I think you have to give someone a password to enter the room with the stuff, I can't recall.

I know.:P But it took 30 minutes too long to be enjoyable by any means. Trust me, I did not like that part. The game really didn't reel me in. It lack dynamic. Something. Can't quite say really. Everytime I play it, I force myself. It's just not my type of game. The platforming portion is weak and pales to SMG. The RPG factor is weak compared to an actual RPG. There you go, it fails to blend these things well. But I will finish it only to get my 50 dollars worth, if nothing else.

I haven't played it yet but I plan on picking it up. I heard it's not as good as the other Paper Mario games but it still has always seemed to be a great Wii game, so that's something I will definitely be getting once I have some money.

Agreed, with all your points. I felt like the hybrid formula detracted too much from both RPG and platforming elements, though. The RPG elements weren't quite emphasized enough, and the platforming was just plain easy and uninteresting. And switching from 2D to 3D was more of a nuisance than a fun gameplay element. In fact, I played the original Paper Mario shortly after beating SPM, and the first thing I noticed was how relieved I was to not have to worry about checking every area in 2D and 3D.

I especially agree about the humor. Some of it was downright hilarious, but it was like several dabs of frosting on an otherwise bland cake. I like reading too, but it completely interrupted the flow of the game in this case.

I am glad to have played Super Paper Mario. It was one of the most interesting mixes of two genres I have ever seen. However, I do not think its needs to be explored again on the consoles. We have all these rumors about a new Mario game at E3. If that Mario game was Paper Mario 3 in the traditional Paper Mario then E3 was an epic win. As for Super Paper Mario I could see that series making an apeearance on the handheld as it is perfectly fitted for that type of game. Just as long as they make one of the genres platforming or RPG more relevant in the game.
