My top 5 Zelda games, (because I'm not a fan of the 2d ones) are:
1. MAJORA'S MASK is my favorite video game of all time! To me, it has the most creative story and I loved the darkness of the game. The darkness set a certain mood and emotional tone. It was the first Zelda game that actually had emotional cutscenes such as Anju/Kafei. Even though it was dark, it still had colorful, enlightening factors which made it a great game. I also love how more is done outside the dungeons and more focus is on character interaction and sidequests which to me are what makes the series so incredible. Most other games are so linear that you feel like you're being forced to do it. MM felt more open and free.
2. TWILIGHT PRINCESS is highly underrated. It's my second fav game of all time. Although many people think it's unoriginal, I think it's actually one of the more original ones. It brought so many new, ideas. Plus, horseback combat, HUUUUUUGE bridges, a gigantic world, a long storyline made it feel more "epic". Dungeons and temples have always been my least favorite part of Zelda games, but in TP I like them the best. People also always diss the graphics, when personally I LOVE them. It's so realistic, yet everything seems to glow. The scene at the very beginning blew me away. Midna's character was one of my favorite characters out of all Zelda games. TP really doesn't deserve all the negative criticism it gets.
3. THE WIND WAKER is possibly the most unique, daring, and imaginitive game in the series. I haven't actually finished the game because there's a scratch on it but from what I did, it's an amazing game. Even though the graphics are simple, it's by far the most beautiful game of the series and one of the most visually stunning games of all time. Plus, the ocean and beach are my favorite places to be so I love the WW's seaside charm.
4. OCARINA OF TIME is a great game but overrated. You may hate me for this, but even though I love the game, it felt flat and bland for most of it. It's the most conservative, stick to the status quo kind of game. I think that the only reason it's so loved is that it was the first game of the series to go to 3D. Sure, at first it was innovative, but now when I look back and compare it to all other 3D titles, I realize that it has the least imaginitive storyline, the least colorful graphics and the most plain world. It's not as unique. Even though people may say that it's the same graphics as MM, it's really not. MM has such rich, dark colors but OOT is just pasty, pale and uninteresting. I didn't really feel as emotionally connected to the game as other 3D games. Don't get me wrong, I still thought it was an amazing game with great gameplay, puzzles and difficulty. I'm just not in LOOOOVE with it.
5. Phantom Hourglass was a good game. It was innovative with the new stylus touch screen and that allowed for some really creative puzzles. Even though there wasn't a whole lot of items, the ones they had were all reinvented in a whole new way. Although the story wasn't deep or all that interesting, I thought it was a good, solid game.
