I've battled with connection problems since the day I finally got a wireless router and I am here to tell you all the fixes I have found for your Wii connection problems.

If anyone has any other suggestions they are welcomed with open arms and I will be sure to credit you.

The problem I had, and most other problems have the Wii operator sitting and looking at the screen for minutes on end until finally being greeted with a nice little error code. If this is the case for you, please keep reading.

First, think back if you've suddenly had these problems since the last time you updated the Wii. If you believe the problems have stemmed since then, try going to your Wii settings, Internet settings, User Agreement and agree to the terms of use. I believe you have to do this EVERY TIME YOU UPDATE. I'm not sure if they'll fix this bug in a future release but as of right now that seems to be the best solution. Just try doing this to see if it will fix the problem.

Another thing that could be holding you back is if your router is set on a channel other than 1 or 11. For some people 1 works and 11 doesn't and vice versa. Hopefully your neighbors dont have a wireless setup close enough to yours to interfere, but if they do stay out of the channels they are on because it will cause complications for both of you. In order to change your router channel you should type in 192.168.1.1 in your address bar and hit enter. You will be asked to enter a username and password. If you've never messed with these settings before, you should leave username blank, and enter the password: admin

USE(less)FUL INFORMATION: The router's channels do NOT work like T.V. channels. They run on very similar frequencies and change only slightly when you move them from channel to channel. If you have one wireless network set up on channel 1, and another on channel 2, it may cause enough interference to mess up your devices. As a general rule of thumb, try to separate them as much as possible. Most devices have a default of 1, 11, or 6 (most likely 6) and if you can avoid using the others I HIGHLY suggest using these 3 channels. For the Wii, 1 and 11 work best but 6 also works for some people.

If neither of these techniques work please feel free to post on this board. Be specific about your problem and maybe I will be able to help you. As previously stated I am open to any suggestions of things to add to this board.

Hmmm...didn't work. I can detect my router, connect to internet (sometimes), recieve mesages and download updates...but I can't use the programs I download online anymore. It happened before I update the news channel.

Anyway, can you tell me how to change my router channel to 1 or 11?

Yes, and that's something I should definitely add to the original post.

Hopefully this will fix your problem, as for not being able to play the things you downloaded online... I have no experience dealing with this so i dont know how to fix it, but the first thing i would try is delete one of your games and redownload it (which is free). That is assuming you get your connection to remain a little more stable.

as of right now, yes I believe that is the case. It seems more like a bug than something they actually did on purpose so I'm sure they'll catch and fix it soon. It may not be fixed by the next update however so if you experience problems after an update this is one of the first things I would suggest you do.

Ok. I typed yesterday the numbers in the address bar and it leaded me a google search. Just now, I tried going to the news channel and it works. Didn't work yesterday... well never worked before. Maybe it's because of what I typed the numbers in the address bar like you told me to. Through, I can't go on the web browser and wii shop channels now, but it already worked before.

I was talking about the channels earlier (the things that I downloaded and that I couldn't use), not the games. Sorry, wasn't clear.

I have been thinking about what could be the problem. Maybe.

The router isn't connected in my computer in my room, it's plugged in an other computer in a room located two "floors" (forget the word in english lol) above my room. The distance is kinda far but my Wii and my computer can still connect to it. Through, the signal my Wii recieves is low. For my computer to connect to the router and connect to internet, I have bought and pluged a USB network adapter and I have to put it (the USB adapter) to channel 6 for it to work and connect. Do you think it could be related to my wii problems and stuff? And could the distant from my Wii and the router be a problem as well?

It's ok if you can't help me. At least you tried. Thanks. Appreciate.

Well i'd really like to help if I can, but i dont know what else to tell you now. If those numbers led you to a google search that's an interesting problem. You would have a different Default Gateway than what the majority of the people would have. I'm not exactly sure how to find that unless you miraculously still have windows 98. If you for some reason do have windows 98 on ANY of your computers, then you can go to Start, Run, and type in "winipcfg" and switch the drag down menu to your ethernet card, if it's not already showing you a default gateway. Then type in that number instead of the one i told you to type. A default gateway is like... your routers webpage, it has a lot of settings so you can change that around. But, i dont really think this is your problem, nor do i believe its because the router is too far away from your Wii. The USB connector could affect your wii, but i doubt that. I really dont know what to tell you. Try unplugging the wii from the outlet to flush the cache and when you plug it back in it should be RED instead of the faint orangish yellow. This means that wii connect 24 was disabled. Now just go through everything over again, try making a new network connection, testing it, and telling the wii to use that connection by default. Agree to the liscense agreement one more time and cross your fingers. That is all I can offer you, sorry if I can't fix your problem.
