I think always thinking your religion is going to be in the view of only a positive light, and should never under any situation be in a bad light is as bogus as anything. Being a firm believer in the Valhalla and Odin, I dont expect to not get slack for picking what I think is right, after all I know there is a good chance I only believe in the stuff for some psycologcal saftey blanket, am not going to be ignorent and say stuff like.

" Odin Sphere should be removed from shelfs because it portary's Odin in a viallines roll! " No that would be ignorant. in fact i lvoe the game, and I would never asked for any of it to be change its a zstory and it can be told and intterpreted in any way it wants.

Personaly I think they should have kept it and anyone stupid enough to find it offensive should have sucked it up.

I'm not a Muslim and I don't see the racism. I don't see how it could be offensive for a monkey to say such a phrase. You could interpret it as racism. But that would be because you were putting your own spin on what you see. If a monkey in the game said "Praise Jesus", and I were a Christian. I still wouldn't see the racism. To assume developers are suggesting religous followers are monkeys is just a negative assumption, and so it could be seen that those offended could just be wanting the offense. That's just my view. I personally have nothing against anyone or their beliefs.

well personally I think it's wrong to go out of your way to offend people, but when people take ffense to things that are NOT meaning to be, OR people force their own religion on others, it's also wrong

something such as the ruling out of non-muslims to drawmuhamid, is wrong. But likewaise, Christians stopping non-christians opening shops on sundaysor drinking excessively is also wrong

so yeah it does seem like they are going a bit out of their way to offend, so yeah it should be taken out

NOTICE: I'm a christian

I can see why they'd want it removed. The characters in the scene appear to be a primitive, uncivilized people performing some kind of ritual around a fire. The fact that they're monkeys just adds to that, but they could be any animal (or even humans) and the effect would be essentially the same. Using a real-life religious phrase was a poor choice on the developer's part, because it causes the viewer to make the connection between Islam and primitive/uncivilized. It seems like a silly kind of game; why not create a silly kind of phrase to shout?

Agreed. People need to stop crying about stupid crap that is in no way offensive. We know you want attention, try finding something that is actually offensive for a change. Capcom should have kept it in. People don't know what racism is these days.

I don't get offended when a game takes the lord's name in vain. I don't get offended when there are jesus based characters in south park, the simpsons, dogma, etc.

The arguement could be made that these aren't portraying me as an unkempt, uncivilized, pagan. But a lot of the practices of paganism have slipped into christianity and I'm ok with that.

It's an interesting arguement to consider. Why did Capcom choose this phrase? What is being portrayed? Why is it offensive to Muslims? Where should the seperation of business and religion be made? These are going to draw different answers from different people...

My personal opinion is that the phrase had little to nothing to do with the game and it makes sense from a business aspect to alter it. The inclusion of religious themes, names, etc in media (in videogames particularly) has always peaked my interest though. It's a bit annoying that people are so sensative that this is offensive, but it's commendable that the Muslim community will stand up and defend their religion in such a public manner.

I guess what I'm trying to say is....whatever!

I don't think it was intentional. They were probably making the animals speak some kind of weird, fictional language and it turned out that one of the sentences actually meant something in a foreign language.

I just don't understand why Muslims were so offended, aren't they worshipping Allah ? Is it so wrong to say that their "God is the greatest" ? :|

This might sound rude, but the people that complain are just looking for some attention. THere are bigger things happening out there and we do nothing but when we see a little phrase that we dont like on a game we just have to complain about it. Grow up, and start growing some balls to accept things as what they are and fight for something that trully counts.

Are you really so naive?

The thing is that people found this offensive because of the way it was said. I don't think someone would care if someone said "Allah akbar" in a game, but this one was said in aninappropriate way. Christianity has become a bigger part of the western culture so it doesn't feel awkard or offensive when someone says something about Jesus etc.

Personally, I am a guy who wants to play good games. I do not want anything religious or political crap in my game. That's why I found this prase in this game idiotic.

The US Constitution doesn't include a right not to be offended, but it does include freedom of speech. Being able to express your opinion is one of our most important rights (even if your opinion is racist, sexist, bigoted, or repugnant in some other way), and if you don't like what someone says you can leave the room, change the channel, state your own opinion, or in the case of a videogame, don't buy it.

It's the same thing that happened at OOT and the Fire Temple. There was a phrase like that on song ofthe Fire Templein the 1st version of OOT. Nintendo removed it. I would not mind since I'm not mulism. Infact, I'm atheist. I would not understand the word.

Of course no one minds if a normal person said " Allah Akbar" in a game. But it's used in an offending way in the game. I believe in freedom of expression, but i think no one should disrespect anyone's beliefs, muslims, jew, christian, hindu whatever...

I don't even remember where this quote comes from. But... "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Basically some one may be offended, or choose to be offended. But that is the cost of free speech.

They can, but why risk any kind of uproar over something so easily fixed? If it were a major part of the game, a major theme or something, something that Capcom was intentionally trying to push to enhance the experience, then it would be worth defending. But that's not the case here.

I'm all about freedom of expression, but sometimes what you're expressing simply isn't important enough to risk offending a group of people. The brief ritual chant isn't that important in Zak and Wiki. In a game like Grandia II, however, where the Pope turns out to be a corrupt criminal, what they're expressing is an important point and a major theme of the game. Catholics may be offended, even though it's the Pope of another world, but the developer was making a serious point by including it.

It could have possibly been a misunderstanding like they just thought it sounded cool and didn't no what it meant( although that is unlikely)also where is the proof that this was taken out of the game or ever was in the game? i'm not usually one to ask for proof but i don't want a lot of people getting offensive at capcom if this is just a rumor.

and yes i agree it is offensive

i'm christian and i don't know hardly anything about muslims except they get a bad rep for the Extremists which really bugs me cuz i know a muslim and hescoolbut if it offends you apparently it's offensive and should be taken out

there's no such ting as politically correct to bash, but it has become socially acceptable
no idea why, probably because the christians are the only people who actually SEE that it does them more harm than good if they get all angry and frustrated that they did that, and start trying to ban things... muslims on the other hand ban things in countries they don't even live in

What are you talking about? The purpose of pollitical correctness is to prevent people from telling the truth when liberals don't want to hear it. They have a list of things and people you can't criticize, because if you do you're a racist, sexist, homophobe etc., and they have a list of things it's OK to criticize. One of those things is Christianity. It's also pollitically correct to bash Walmart and the NRA.

This is veering off-topic, but I have to address this statement. Christians are notorius for getting bent out of shape about all sorts of things, some legitimate, some ridiculous. In any kind of mass group, there will always be out-going extremists who aren't afraid to go public with their complaints. Christianity is no exception. Trust me, I know. I went to a Christian high school and a Christian college, and I was surrounded by people like that. They were the minority, but they stuck out because of their need for attention.

Every organized group needs people that create attention for their cause. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks is that they sometimes bring attention to ridiculous or relatively unimportant ideas that the majority doesn't necessarily agree with. You should never assume that the outspoken people represent the opinion of every member of their religion.

haha exactly, we Christians are the only ones that have the stones to take it apparently, we stand by our beliefs and don't take into account the fact that we hear the phrase "oh my god" constantly in media. yes i know there are some Christians that get really defensive over this stuff but franky i feel that that's unBiblical. do you know how many rpg's have "God" or the apparent savior of the world as evil? ya, we take a lot more crap than any other religion o just stop complaining, you're the new scapegoat...deal

If it wasn't for the religion, it wouldn't've been in the game, why can't they just leave the religion alone?

I don't think it was intentional. They were probably making the animals speak some kind of weird, fictional language and it turned out that one of the sentences actually meant something in a foreign language.

I just don't understand why Muslims were so offended, aren't they worshipping Allah ? Is it so wrong to say that their "God is the greatest" ? :|

The arguementation is false. Some monkeys use muslim phrases.

Muslim phrases are usually used by muslims.

therefore, all muslims are monkeys.

That doesn't stand to be true logically. I'm not saying that Capcom should keep it. In fact, I think Capcom putting it in grabbed publicity and then changing it shows their respect for muslims. This ultimately is more favorable than not having the phrase in to star with.

From a business perspective, Capcom just laid a teaser out for the muslim faith. It's biznass peoples....

I fail to see much racism in it. It's a little edgy but I don't see much wrong with it. It's good Capcom took it out because it could offend people.

Note: I'm also Muslim.
