To throw another theory out there,it's possible that the entire franchise is as the title suggests; it's a legend. It's the same core story being retold over and over, changed and altered as time passes. There may not be an actual timeline with this theory.VGobbsesser

no, each game is a little part of the entire legend of zelda.

i guess your theory possible, but i seriously doubt it

Every legend is different.

There is no time line.

You know what I have a full timeline that I will blog once I get access to Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures.

I'm really serious I have everything tied in together (of course not including CD-i) but I'm really close I will post someday on GS. So far everything that I have ties in, and ties in WELL.

  1. Ocarina of time came first,
  2. then oracle of ages/seasons,
  3. then Majoras mask,
  4. then a link to the past,
  5. then four swords,
  6. then minish cap,
  7. then Legend of Zelda 1 and 2,
  8. then wind waker,
  9. then Phantom hourglass,
  10. then Twilight princess.

Thats what I think...

Im not including the Cd-i games.

I guess the CD-i games come after the Legend of Zelda 1 and 2 if they count.

It's already been stated that Ocarina of Time had a split timeline. Majora's Mask Link is the same one from OoT.

TP takes place on one side of the timeline, and WW is on the other. Phantom Hourlglass is the sequel to WW.

Definitely a timeline story no question about it.

I'm not going to anymore detail but I do have it all pretty well figured out, and in-depth detail.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. Nintendo just wants you to believe whatever you want to believe.

Well, there are some things that can be said for sure and firmly cemented down, based on internal logic and what Nintendo has said. There are other things we can say with confidence (i.e. game X and game Y must come after game Z) but can't cement down (i.e. does game X come before or after game Y?) Then there are things that are entirely unknown - probably to Nintendo too. :P

Frankly, for something with so little emphasis on story, way too much ado has been made over it.

Since this topic has been bumped, I might as well say that Eiji Anouma said that Zelda II comes after Ocarina in a NP interview.

You know what im wondering? Why wont nintendo make an official statement to just get over with all this nonsense. it shouldnt be that hard. just make up some logical BS and the fans will eat it up. problem solved. This is the same thing with the OOT beta, and why theres an ocorania pedistal in the entrace to JABU JABU or the hidden cutscene that requires a gameshark or the unicorn fountain, sky temple, and the stupid triforce(which is not in the game because link has a piece, and so do zelda and ganon) It only takes about 10 minutes to make an official statement.

It's probably just one legend, but like old unwritten stories that get passed down across generations, it has many versions.

Ganondorf is a Gerudo King. He has obtained the Triforce (which was split up, and he only received the Triforce of Power). His true form (which is debateable imo with TP's animal theme) is Ganon which is the loveable warthog we all love.
