"The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Swordis somewhere over halfway done, according to Miyamoto, which means that if IO Interactive were making it, it'd be released already. The downside, however, is that the original "early 2011" release date is no longer going to be met.

Skyward Swordis being designed to feature "very dense" gameplay that encourages players to "go back and replay the game once they finish it." The game has gone back to a broad 2011 release, so you can expect it to drop any time next year, unless we get any severe delays.

I've been looking forward toSkyward Swordmore than any Wii game not calledThe Last Story, so I'm a little bummed about the delay. Still, if it takes a long time to make a game great, I can't really complain." - Jim Sterling, Destructoid

http://www.destructoid.com/zelda-skyward-sword-is-over-half-finished--190121.phtml

Main article:

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/37425/interview-shigeru-miyamoto-nintendo-zelda

So it sounds like they are just widening the release frame to all of next year now rather than "early" 2011. I'm expecting a Holiday season 2011 release now, maybe summer (SMG2) if were really lucky!

Miyamoto I believe said in 08 that they were looking at a holiday 2010 release. They were useing TP graphics at the time. They since switched the art $tyle and that cause the increase in time. The game was never offically coming this year and right now the status is TBA 2011

Hey if it makes the game better I'm fine with that. I hope the wait isn't too long though. "

Very dense" gameplay? Awesome.

EDIT:

"The thing is that I enjoy going to work so much that the only time I take for vacation is for my family's sake. Making and playing games for a living is such fun".
Kind of off topic but this is a nice Miyamoto quote I found in that article.

They have only pointed at a rough time when it would be released, never gave a date and never technically delayed it. I agree with Miyamoto though that TP was too open and baren, and to make it more dense like past zeldas would be a smart idea.

Nah, it hasn't been delayed because they are still yet to announce an official release dates. The early sayings of a 2010 release were hopeful speculation at best. Honestly I'm not very surprised.

In the actual article Miyamoto never says it won't meet the early 2010 release date, he just says the game is over halfway done. I would wait for Nintendo to actually say something official, or say something about it being delayed. Technically, over halfway done could mean they are 99% done :P That's over half.

Over halfway done could mean 100% done, don't take these kinds of vague statements so seriously. The game has no official release window other than 2011.

I'm thinking more along the lines of late 2012. It may mean a Super Wii version in the works.

That's what I'm looking forward to in 2012, Super Wii.

Say it with me....Super Wii. One more time....Super Wii.

Super Wii...

There is no confirmation of delay. "over half complete" could mean anything technically. So it still could release Q1 next year. Although I'm not hopefully due to the fact that there is no other video or trailer for the game other than the E3 one.

Their was more to it than just that concerning a 2010 release!

Did you read the article in the link there?

LaytonsCat

Probably would have looked something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgOWYH0FNLw

According to some of the comments its running on SM64's engine, and it looks that way.

Obviously they didn't like the way it was looking/turning out :P Thank goodness they scrapped that idea and took a new approach!

"NintendoCEO Satoru Iwata confirmed to Japan's Asahi Shimbun daily today that the Wii Zelda sequel, first revealed at last year's E3, will be released this year. "

Obviously I'm having a hard time finding a direct link to that article from the Asahi Shimbun so its really a matter of how much you trust IGN and their reporting/interpretation on this matter.

They were aiming for a Q4 2010 release yes, until they said at E3 they'd have to wait another year, which is good considering how broken the controls were then. Release date never officially announced. And right now, they're trying to tell us that the only reason Skyward Sword isn't finished is because of the graphics, and that was from THE Shigeru Miyamoto. Do I trust IGN? No.

No but, "Early 2011 -- that is what we're aiming for" (Eiji Aonuma to Official Nintendo Magazine) DOES!

http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=zelda+early+2011+release&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I'm not gonna bother giving a link to a direct article, just a google search on it with a list of a bunch of websites (IGN, 1UP, GameSpot, MTV, Zelda Dungeon, Zelda Universe ect.) all reporting the same thing, early 2011!

Seriously, click any search result on that front page and you'll see them reporting a early 2011 release...

It was never delayed a first time, hence he could not be delayed again. And yay for taking ambiguous statements and running away with it "over half done" could mean its 98% done. This thing wasn't worth making an article about on any website and it wasn't worth making a topic like this where the title is giving out fraudulent information.

Don't pay any attention for when they would like to have it out. I'm not setting any artificial timelines in my head for this. For all we know, for whatever reason it's possible that it might not make it out for 2011 at all.

Jim Sterling seems to be really hit or miss, mostly miss recently. I read through the actual article again and unless I'm missing a paragraph or something I have no idea what he used in there to write the article he wrote? Prooobabaly never gonna use him again for anything news related, just the occasional controversial opinionated stuff.

I still personally see this game as being delayed when the CEO says 2010 and then the producer comes out and says 2011 due to graphical changes, that to me sounds like a delay but whatever I guess thats just me....

They said they were aiming for 2010, they never confirmed 2010, hence its not a delay. They have yet to give a release window, they just go with their usual wide berth answers that people apply meaning to. Remember when Reggie was on GTTV and the host kept pressing him on Zelda 2010 and he was saying, that no one ever actually said that, he was right, people just assumed.

Well then it looks like IGN is just as bad as Destructoid! :PCheck out this old article titled "Zelda Sequel CONFIRMED For 2010":

http://wii.ign.com/articles/105/1058479p1.html

I always thought it was a little sketchy because it doesn't have any direct quotes from Iwata so its hard to know just how "official" it was as we don't know if he was using words like "aiming" and such.

Never saw the GTTV interview so I'm just gonna have to take your word for it!

This shouldn't be surprising. nintendo will want to release zedla as a holiday game.
