Asher Roth has already dropped his debut album, Charles Hamilton, and Drake plan to drop theirs on major labels, and B.o.B, and Wale's are expected later this year.
So out of the five, who drops a classic disc their first album out? If none, then who puts out the best album?
I honestly think of the five mentioned, Drake, CH, and Wale all have the potential to drop classic albums. I'm really curious to see what Drake comes out with, especially after hearing So Far Gone [which could pass for a really great album] and Comeback Season [which was a huge letdown]. I personally believe if Drake just sticks to his roots, and puts out an album similar to So Far Gone, his first disc will be a classic, and probably the best of the five mentioned.
Charles Hamilton to me, is the most consistent of the five. With Charles, you know what you're getting, and that's great music [the CH haters can laugh now]. He's very consistent, and knows how to make good music, even if you're hardly ever blown away by what he does. With that said though, I'm not sure Charles is willing to put in the effort, and extra polish to make more than just an excellent mixtape. He's put out so much material in the last year and a half, that I question whether he even wants to make an album. Often times he sounds like he's just out there having fun, and that's great. However, if Charles thinks he can put the same effort into an album as he did with Sonic The Hamilton, or Well...Isn't This Awkward, he's kidding himself.Â
As far as Wale, I'm absolutely in love with the dude. I think his flow, mixed with the go-go production he uses on Mixtape About Nothing has c|assic written all over it. He should put out a consistent album, I just hope he keeps the Best Kept Secret behind the boards, and has more material that isn't as gimmicky as some of the songs on Mixtape About Nothing. I realize he was trying to make a point about the gimmicks, and stereotypes of hip hop [Remake of a Remake, Feature Heavy Song, The Grown Up] but I'd rather he put out an album that's a little more personal. The last thing I need is a Wale album where he talks about the state of hip hop like everyone seems to be doing nowadays.Â
In the end, I think none of the five drop c|assics, but I expect Charles [surprise] to have the best album when its all said and done. If the album is at least as good as his mixtapes, it should be about a B+/A-, and far outdo what I think the others will put out. I think Wale and Drake will be up there too, but I expect the Wale album to underwhelm [possibly to be of the same quality as the first Rhymefest album? consistent, but nothing spectacular] and the Drake album to have more rapping, and pop tracks than I'd like.
Asher Roth stinks as many of you know. I've yet to hear any B.o.B. but if any of you went to throw a recommendation this way I'll be happy to listen to it.
