[QUOTE="rubbersouI"]rap is pretty wack right nowBLBxLakers24Your sig is wack considering its 2009 and that was 2007. :P
Dayyummmm.
I still think the crazy thing about all these dudes is most of them (if not all) are doing this with out any major label help. Sure Drake just annouced he signed to Young Money and will be distributed through Universal but he has had "Best I Ever Had" owning the airwaves, #2 song on iTunes and BET went nuts over him last night all from a mixtape. Crazy stuff. I'm exicited for Drake - I just hope he doesn't get over hyped... though many might think he already is. Should be intersting to see how things pan out for him.

WTF? Every single one of those guys in Colt's post are on major labels. And that whole distribution thing doesn't mean anything; that's like saying Rocko is independent because he's on Rocky Road Records (aside: one of the worst label names ever) and is distributed by Def Jam. Do you even understand what distribution is? There's a reason these songs are on the radio - the major labels are distributing these songs to the stations. They're paying for the radio time. It's not like Top 40 stations suddenly starting playing the song because Drake is a really nice guy. Except for the rare Roc-A-Fella, No Limit, or Sic Wid It, vanity labels ain't **** - Drake is, by any and all means, the property of Universal Records.
rap is pretty wack right nowrubbersouI
If rap only consisted of the rappers people are talking about in this thread, then yes (besides Wale, anyways). I feel sorry for the kids growing up these days; I remember growing up and flipping through the pages of The Source, just being excited as hell for rap music. Now all these kids get is dudes singing on autotune and rapping about corny ****.
The thing is, though, there's still so much great **** coming out that's not covered by this thread that this **** doesn't even phase me.

I think that we need to wait for another generation of rappers to pass by before declaring it wack right now. We grew up during the Nas, Hov, Pac, etc. etc. era and have experienced good music, I guess until we hear what all these guys have to offer, then we should call it wack.
