oh and this thread owns.
production on every odd future album sucksWow the ignorance in this thread has just crossed the line and needs to be stopped. You must not have a very good ear for hip hop because OF production is phenomenal. Some of the best right now actually. Left Brain might literally be a beast and Tyler and Syd have made their fair share of dope beats also.
Even using fruit loops or garage band or w/e they've managed to produce some dope mixtapes/albums. Music way better than almost anything out right now. Might even go as far as using the word genius in some instances (Earlmatic, Yonkers video, the beat on Cashmere, etc.)
Other than J.Cole and Kanye West who actually has talent and is worth listening to in the rap game? Nobody. Would you rather listen to Lupe Fiasco rap the bottom line of CNN? Kid Cudi cry more? Eminem sing about holding hands? Whatever ratchet is posting in that other thread?Mainstream sucks and underground is no better. Rap is talentless garbage right now and OF is one of the few groups still putting out DOPE music. They just need Earl back because he's the 3rd best rapper of all time.
Im done.
Blu, Charles Hamilton, Jay Electron, Elzhi, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Jazz Liberatorz, Fashawn, Curren$y, Big KRIT, and Lil B are all talentless :|? That's just off the top of my head, and I could give you a list of dozens of current artists that have talent and are worth listening to... Some of those guys haven't released an album/mixtape in a year or two, but still... Eminem, Lupe, and Kid Cudi don't represent Hip-Hop... not at all.
Â
^^ hate to break it to you, but Em is the biggest hip hop artist of all time, he does represent hip-hop. And Lupe and Kid Cudi (ugh) are some of the bigger mainstream acts in hip hop today. So those artists do have a major impact on the public perception.

Omzzz
yeah, to ****ers who dont know anything about rap at allÂ
well, if you're a hip hop head, it doesn't matter who's big or not, you'll find what you like. If you're a member of the majority of the world, however....
You ask some random person at my university or on the street to name a hip hop artist and it's gonna be Em or Wayne maybe Jay-Z. That's just the way it is. Why we arguing over this though? Who represents hip hop has no bearing on who makes good music. Toriko42
Canadians don't count :P

Ah, I see you added more. Let me add another one to your "would you rather" list... would you rather listen to a bunch of teenagers give their hipster take on horrorcore? Nope.[QUOTE="mems_1224"][QUOTE="Colt45fool"]I haven't listened to Goblin yet, but i heard the production on it BLOW CHUNKS.[QUOTE="-Halftime-"]Earl is dope but it really suffers from bad beats.... South and West coast have it on lock if you ask me...especially the south.Â
Yep, Eminem represents Hip-Hop and everything that makes it up... Kid Cudi and Lupe Fiasco too ... That's all you need, listen to them and you'll have an idea of exactly what every other artist in this genre is like and how much talent they have. Makes sense.Â

you really have no grasp of what represent means, do you? Let me give you an example: Barack Obama represents America. Does that mean every single person in America shares his ideals? Does that even mean the majority of America shares his ideals (which may be so but is not a given with any president). Â
I find dope music here and there, but I've concluded that I'm just not a big fan of modern rap overall. I feel it lost its touch by being so bland, generic, and rehashed over the past few years. Its so formulaic to me now:?Black-Demon
damn, I feel like the last couple years have actually been better than the few that preceded it

It's lost it's character/charisma. Which is exactly what OF brings back. Little ninjas really are just having a good time and making music. Only good thing in rap right now don't understand how anybody can hate.

I don't understand how you can hate on a region you don't know **** about but that ain't stopping you from doing it... How you can like this: "Earl Sweatshirt - Earl" And hate on this: "Roach Gigz - The Moment ft. Marlo & Young Gully" In the same sentence boggles the mind. If you can't find character/charisma in Bay Area rap then you're either not listening or have no idea what they're talking about. The struggle is what birthed Hip Hop and is the undercurrent of all Bay rap... if you hate the music of the struggle then you hate Hip Hop period. That wasn't the point... preference is preference but hating is another thing. The kind of dude who has the brass balls to get on a pedestal about rap taste while making a thread like this is exactly the reason why hip hop fans are seen as the wackest fans... you don't hear soul, jazz or rock fans saying half of the stupid **** that rap fans do.Earl is infinitely better than this Roch Gigz dude...Just makes more enjoyable music...
That said Illmatic is obviously the better album but Earl and OFWGKTA are some of the best making music right now.Â

The way AL was talking about Eminem/Kid Cudi/Lupe made it sound like he was using them to define how much talent is in the genre and what kind of variety there is in it. That's very different from what you're getting at... If he were to just have said that Eminem represents Hip-Hop, well duh that would be true, because just like Rakim, Nas, Jay-Z or whoever else, Eminem does represent it to an extent because he's a part of it. But him acting like Eminem's/Cudi's/Lupe's level of talent right now is indicative of the level of talent in the rest of the genre's artists or that the variety in Hip-Hop is limited to what those three artists do is very, very different...
To go along with your Obama analogy, what he was saying would have been the equivalent of him saying that every American was limited to believing what Obama believes, supporting the policies Obama supports, etc...Â
I was simply saying that those three artists don't offer an accurate image of everything Hip-Hop has to offer, because that's what he was implying. If he had gone on to say "Blu, making nyquil music?" and "Lil Wayne rapping about cough syrup" or similar things for like every Hip-Hop artist (lol), then that would be different because he wouldn't be ignorantly acting like a handful of artists represent EVERYTHING that this genre is, but he'd just be stating that he thinks EVERY rapper out right now (besides OF ones) are wack... and that would be his opinon, so whatever. Chances are though, he hasn't heard a good amount of music from every active rapper, so him saying "Oh, bay area music sucks, Lupe sucks, Em sucks, and Cudi sucks, so all of Hip-Hop sucks right now, besides OF" isn't justifiable...

Completely agree with that sentence. I feel that nowadays you have to search real hard or hear from word of mouth about good listenable albums/mixtapes coming out rather than checking it on the television screen. And from the way they carry themselves, they do look like they're just out to have fun and put out some musack so I can't hate. Still can't stand their work though
Just thought I would throw it out that Nas is doing a track with 3 members of oddfuture. Not Earl of course :PSwanogt19
Gross. If I was Odd Future I would decline. Nas is just gonna ruin it with his bore raps and manage to find the worst beat possible. Any group that has Earl Sweatshirt caliber levels of talent in it shouldn't have to lower themselves to rapping with Nas.
