Lets say 10-15 years down the road we look back at 2008....has a classic been released this year?

Do any albums have potential?

Discuss.

It's way too early to decide that. You have to give an album at least a couple of years to truly test its replay value.

I'm honestly already calling Black Milk's "Tronic" album a classic disc. Awesome from the first listen, still awesome to this day...if my thought process changes I'll let you guys know.

Word. If that album isn't on your top 10 list, then idk wtf you've been doing with yourself this year.

I'm not calling it a cl.assic yet, but it's really, really dope.

It's a little early to call anything a "classic". However I think that you can agrue "Raw Footage".

That Jazz Lberatorz is tight but the interludes where they reminisce about Hip-Hop are really annoying because they break up the flow of the album.

Fat Ray & Black Milk's The Setup >>> Tronic imo.

I dug Oh No vs Percee P and Elzhi's Europass muchly.

I still need to hear Ode to the Ghetto but Stones Throw are like the blog Gestapo.

Are you kidding me? The spoken words are some of the highlights of the whole album. You're wack, your tastes are officially the definition of trash.

Tronic. My favorite instrumentals off any album in the last few years, and BM stepped up his game quite a bit.

LAX will probably end up being considered one, for some reason. Especially if Game dies or something in the next few years, or before he drops his 4th album (we all know the dude isn't "retired"). Oh and C3 will easily go down as one.

HAHAHAHA NO

The only album I've listened to that has been close to having that type of replay value was Heltah Skeltah's "D.I.R.T."

Elzhi - The Preface

Black Milk - Tronic

Q-Tip - The Renaissance

Not sure if there classic material, but they're definitely stand out albums of the year for me.

Other possible alternatives

Reks - Grey Hairs ?

eMC - The Show ?

GZA - Pro Tools ?

Also, for my love of Madlib, Beat Konducta: vol. 5&6. Both very listenable and have good replay value.

What is so negative about being a backpacker? All backpacker means is some kid on the streets that likes hip hop. If you want to stretch the definition, you could say he a lover of underground material. That being said, you are then a backpacker, right? Jazz Lib. is definitely underground. I haven't checked Ode to the Ghetto, Tronic, or Clin d'oiel but I will now that they have been posted on here. I am listening to the iTunes previews now, and they sound promising.

I thought at first that that was a great album, but after you listen to it a few times you start to realise that Cube is a rediculously sloppy writer now. And also often the verses have nothing to do with the title or chorus and that he starts way, way to many lines off with "I" (as in "I'm on OG, I'm a real person, ect.).
