I don't think there's anything wrong with Donuts being listed a classic in the classic thread... It's a helluva lot more of a classic album than The Black Album, Marshall Mather LP, The Lost Tapes, or Endtroducing and those are in the classic thread. Donuts owns.

That's true. People did hop on the bandwagon after his death, but at least it wasn't for the sake of bandwagoning, dude's were really missing out on the dude's ability.

Sure Donuts doesn't capture Dilla's signature/trademark sound and is very different compared to his other ish, but it is a dope album nontheless (IMO) and will be known as a classic down the road.....especially when compared to Tronic, lmao

I love how if you think Dilla's work is classic or if he's your favorite beatmaker then it automatically means you overrated hum because he is dead.

GTFOHWTBS. Seriously.

Dilla died in 2006, and I recall very little mention of him in OTB before then unless it was Orlando, or WGE.

If you think Dilla's work is classic, then what do you think about his work with Slum Village? His first two instrumental albums, and "Ruff Draft" where Dilla spits, and handles the production? Or what about "Champion Sound"with Madlib...

I'm going to be honest, I don't know much about Dilla's career, but I'm also not d-riding him like the producers version of Tupac. He's made some classic material, and I'm sure like most of you, I've heard the more commercial releases (LWFC,  a Slum Village disc or two in my iTunes) before his death, without really realizing who the man was behind the beats...not saying you guys can't believe he makes c|assic ish, but if you're gonna tell me Donus is a c|assic, and that him being on his deathbed while making the album didn't influence your opinion, I'd have to assume you were lying...especially since there was nearly no mention of him here pre-2006.

Unlike other people, I liked Dilla's work before he died. The first Dilla beat I heard was "Find A Way" by A Tribe Called Quest. The Pharcydes second album was what really got me into Dilla though.

What do I think of his other work? I think it's all good. I think Ruff Draft is meh, but I like Welcome 2 Detroit just as much as Donuts if not more. I love the Jaylib album, LWFC is dope, Fantastic Vol 1 is dope but I wouldn't call it a classic(T3 & baatin aren't anything special on the mic). Fantastic Vol 2 is dope too, better than vol 1 but I don't think it's a classic either. Maybe production wise but the rhymes are too lackluster for it to be classic for me.

Dilla isn't my favorite producer ever but I hate how that if I ever put him in my top 3 someone will always say "you only like him because he's teh dead!!11unoshift11!". Dilla being dead doesn't have anything to do with me liking his music, just liek 2Pac, Big Pun, Big L, or Biggie being dead doesn't have anything to do with me liking thier material.
